Watched the highlights of the Head innings and that was just plain ugly, with swings you wouldn’t see in baseball let alone a shortened version of cricket. There's far better opening batsman than him, they just don't fit into the bazball style of cricket. Players like Jennings and Lyth to name just two.

There’s not an ideal candidate ready to step up. I’m not suggesting that Crawley is the answer as he’s pretty crap. Maybe it’s time to try someone else. It’s a shame Ahmed is injured.

I think England have focussed on the partnership and feel like the little and large combo make him and Duckett hard to bowl at in combination. But it's only really Duckett getting runs which makes that nonsense for me.

He will get the second test but if he doesn't make runs that's his career over, another one due to be lost in the Australian graveyard of English cricketers.

I don't either are bad. But Geraint Jones comes to mind. 23 average. It felt like we were playing with one less player when they had Gilchrist.

Suppose it's the same with Head and Crawley nowadays.

He must be due his monster score he gets once every 3-4 years. Hopefully it’s in the next test.
