Cricket Thread

Don't take offence but this is very typical of a lot of comments in this thread - "I don't watch county cricket but I can't beleive these are the best players". The best batsmen in England this year were Ahmed, Hameed and Sibley.

Sibley averaged 60 in CC and Hameed 66. Across 20+ test matches they averaged 20 for England.

The reason Crawley's average in CC is bad is because he's around for April and May when it's impossible to bat and then misses the summer playing for England. He's better than both of those.

Also...he's the 3rd highest scorer in the series, for both sides. He's just not the problem.

Bethell is a great young player, he shouldn't be batting at 3 but Eng got unlucky with Ahmed getting injured in the warm up game.
I do watch county cricket, probably a lot more than you do but I watch Lancashire and obviously whoever they are playing. It's very difficult to make a judgement about players after seeing so little of them barring the Lancashire players. And as I'm sure you know even the selectors don't watch all the cricket, that's why historically they had their eyes and ears who tended to be the umpires and the county captains and coaches. This isn't football where you can watch multiple games each day.

Crawley currently is the least of the problems in the top 3 but without checking I'd bet Compton has outscored him when they've batted together since they became an opening partnership.

I'm not watching it, but he is.

Both teams are pathetic to be honest.
Given that nobody has even managed a half century for either side yet I think you probably have to blame the drop-in wicket rather than the players. Australia has just become a lot more difficult place to bat in general. I remember Cook's 244 at the MCG in 2017/18 and it was as dead as a dodo (pre drop-in). I think that test ended in a draw and the MCG was on the verge of losing test matches because of it. Now it has gone too far the other way. I can't imagine CA are happy about it given that they already lost a fortune after Perth ended so quickly.

That video of Duckett is staged IMO. There is no way that not one member of the England travelling party (including their security) would not have stopped him drinking or took him back to his Hotel Room. He can barley walk, yet managed to slip past all his team mates, coaches, bouncers and anyone else in the bar, without being helped?

He was then found by two English people (one male & one female) who asked him if he needed an Uber and if he was lost, then took the piss and said he should go to the nets for practice!

No way would his mates leave him in that condition!

It's annoying that the majority of their team are not obnoxious gob shite's, with twattable faces anymore!

in 2005 there was only Brett Lee and Shane Warne who didn't act like obnoxious bell end's, who loved the sound of their own gob's!

Pat Cummings has managed to teach most of them some humility!

Staged in what way? Nobody has denied that it wasn't true.

Back to the cricket, it's a terrible pitch that isn't a fair contest, and tbh whatever England have to chase it's one of those pitches that I reckon players are probably well advised in moving down the pitch to try and negate the movement.

Might as well attack than sit back in the crease when it's moving sideways.
