Cricket World Cup 2019 - England World Champions!!!

That is 3 washed out matches so far, a record for world cups.

Upcoming fixtures:
  • Australia v Pakistan (12/06) Taunton - Rain from 4pm
  • India v New Zealand (13/06) Nottingham - Rain from 9am
  • England v West Indies (14/06) Southampton - Sunny
  • Sri Lanka v Australia (15/06) Oval - Cloudy
  • South africa v Afghanistan (15/06) Cardiff - Rain from 10am
  • India v Pakistan (16/06) Manchester - Sunny
Looks like two of those matches will struggle to complete.

I am due at OT for the England v Afghanistan match on the 18th and the New Zealand v Windies on the 22nd both looking to be OK at present if you can believe the forecast.
Atleast India pak match will be sunny :)..do people get refund if Game is washed out

Dear ICC,

Feck you and your planning.

Personally, I enjoy test matches and tournaments organised in England. The atmosphere is fantastic, pitches are good and usually full houses. However, this time around it is proving to be a bit of a farce and sole blame lies on ICC.

Tournaments have been organised before in England, so no one can blame the host country for weather conditions but lack of proper planning on ICC part has taken the shine away from what would have been a classic tournament.

It's quiet ironic that in this rainy season, we will have a sunny day in Manchester of all places.

Just unlucky with the weather. This time last year we were 3 weeks into a prolonged dry heatwave (by U.K. standards) and there wouldn’t have been a minute lost through the entire competition.

What do you mean? They should have reserve days for all matches?

What do you mean? They should have reserve days for all matches?

Realistically speaking, it's unlikely you would require reserve days for all matches, as it stands, 3 matches have been called of so far out of 17. There are many days where only one match is being played, so games could have been moved.

Cost would be incurred but certainly they would still be making considerable revenue. ICC doesn't purchases the equipment, broadcasters do, so arrangement could have been struck with broadcasters to make the adequate arrangements.

You have to realise World Cup is Cricket's biggest offering, as a fan you wait for it for years and when you take that into account its obvious that better arrangements could have been made.

ICC Press Release

Factoring in a reserve day for every match at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup would significantly increase the length of the tournament and practically would be extremely complex to deliver.

It would impact pitch preparation, team recovery and travel days, accommodation and venue availability, tournament staffing, volunteer and match officials availability, broadcast logistics and very importantly the spectators who in some instances have travelled hours to be at the game. There is also no guarantee that the reserve day would be free from rain either.

Up to 1200 people are on site to deliver a match and everything associated with it including getting it broadcast and a proportion of them are moving around the country so reserve days in the group stage would require a significant uplift in the number of staff. We have reserve days factored in for the knock-out stages, knowing that over the course of 45 group games we should play the large majority.

This is extremely unseasonable weather. In the last couple of days we have experienced more than twice the average monthly rainfall for June which is usually the third driest month in the UK. In 2018 there was just 2mm of rain in June but the last 24 hours alone has seen around 100mm fall in the south-east of England.

(Perhaps its just bad luck)
