Have to admit I was coming around to the idea, although all my reasons for being against this kind of signing remain. Not just because he played for United. That itself doesn’t bother me.
I was against Messi this year too, truth be known although the reality is who would turn down either of them.

My main gripe in this is if we still end up with no recognised striker and Pep actually wants one.

But I’m not going to second guess what our management are doing in the background. What their 5 year plan is and what the complexities of any transfer deals are within that framework, especially just going off the nuggets of information we pick up in here.

Like Pep, if that’s it and that’s our squad, then that’s it, pick our best and build them up.

The job of fans is to get behind the team on the pitch. We don’t know the full machinations of what management are doing.

They gazumped on fee and salary. It was all agreed and ready for today. When they came in late offering more, we walked.

Exact same as Sanchez. Not willing to match counter offers and dragged our feet only to see this happen at last minute. Typical.

Unproven above championship level?
Have a word with yourself, he's played in the premier league for the past two seasons, and played well I might add, and is a regular for England!

What is it with these posters posting fucking absolute bollocks without even thinking about what they're writing?

FFS.
He is currently unproven at elite level. He was playing for a tier 3 premiership team in Villa.
Untested in Europe. Largely untested for A mediocre England team.
What about that is difficult for you to understand ?
I hope he turns into a world class star and he may well do so but you buy your most needed target before buying for a position you are already well stacked in.
Simple transfer strategy.
And our transfer managers fucked it up. Yet again.

This is why I don`t understand why the club didn`t distance themselves yesterday. If we weren`t in for him we should have said so. Poor communication really is annoying in all walks of life.
We WERE in for him, right until the end (from what I can make out), but it seems that the guy was touting himself around Europe's biggest clubs in order to get one last pay day.

We talked to him, others obviously did as well.

Sounds like we offered him terms that he was happy with and things were progressing, but like all "good" agents do, his agent was still in contact with others in order to ensure that he maximised the deal he could get for his client.

Another team, who were no doubt aware of our offer, then gazumped us at the 11th hour, and we were unwilling to match or better their offer.

He accepted the larger financial offer.

Greed really is annoying in all walks of life, but are you telling me that any of us wouldn't do the same?

why did we pull out ?? have city got another target.. also we have made it easy for united to setup a lower fee and wages.. maybe we should have got deep in a bidding war knowing united would always pay more then walk away

also am not buying this with pep saying we are happy with what we got ?? if so why did we go for kane and ronaldo in the first place
