Crystal Palace (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

If we'd started Grealish and Doku or even brought them on at HT we'd have won quite comfortably (still don't get Pep's aversion to subs before it becomes too late). Both must start against the Rags so I assume they'll be rested again midweek.
No chance they'll be rested in his beloved Champions League. Personally I'd sooner see us win next Sunday.

It’s been said for weeks but in 50 50s we rarely come out with the ball….Silva, Lewis, Gvardiol, Gundogan, Nunes, Foden ( when he plays) Savinho….very rarely win their duels and unfortunately we are now lacking in the technical skills to make up for this.
For the years of matches I watched Kovacic played, the opponent didn’t even get close to Kova when he has the ball at back and kova has very high rate in 50/50 balls and usually led to quick breakthroughs. The same can be said for Rodri. This is because they are technical, pacy, and with optimum passing lines in mind. I don’t see any other player in the team has all the tools at back, Not even KDB. So when Rodri is missing the team can still function but when Kova is missing, the back half is paralysed in both defending and attacking. The system doesn’t work and the loop of being pressed, panicking, and losing possession repeats and it drains everyone’s energy quickly and injuries would follow even faster.

Juventus is the important match.
rags are a poor team and not a threat to us.
I'm guessing Pep thinks the champions league is more attainable than the Premier league.

My view on this game is that we looked better than last Wednesday. Do we look our old selves? No. But we are gradually climbing up the ladder.

We deserved more out if this game than Palace did. The red card on Lewis was harsh and the decision taken by a ref who is unable to feel the motion of the incident. Lewis was an easy victim.
You think we played better than last week against Forest?

" lacking the hunger to play for a Pep side ".

Its not a...'couldnt give a fuck attitude'....as in rash ford for example. They are not deliberately coasting.

The players are simply exhausted for all the known reasons, acceptable or otherwise.

Several players are being asked to play when not fully fit and being asked to play out of position.

Fatigue causes loss of concentration (not deliberate).

Loss of concentration causes errors (not deliberate)

Fatigue causes stress related injuries (not deliberate)

Playing when half fit creates fatigue AND stress.....rinse and repeat (not deliberate)

We have had (repeated) injuries to 12 players including the best player in the world for the season, the second best player for most games and Phil has disappeared with successive illness's.

We've had to play who is availabe to put the shirt on and do a job. Not ideal but a fact.

The unqualified critism of players who have pushed themselves through minutes by some on here is utterly nauseating, and i bet the critics rarely if ever go to a game, home or away.....Keyboard wankers.

We will refit, we will rebuild, we will renew, and we will return.

It wont be easy, and it may not be this season, but now is the time to understand not over react.

CTID.
Great Post, absolutely nailed it my friend.

Akanji and Ake are two very different characters on the pitch. one can single handly stabilise the backline and contribute to the attack, and the other is a liability in defence who cannot stay concentrated for 90 minutes and can only shine when more experienced defenders are cleaning the shit for him.
All the silverware Akanji has won in his two and a half years with City says he is top class , him and Ruben make a huge difference as Ruben is a leader and our defensive kingpin .
