Crystal Palace (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Why can't we play any of the youth lads like a wright or O'Reilly in the middle just to give us some legs we won't know if they are good enough if they don't play it's obviously not working with what we are doing now
Agree completely. We have won 1 of our last 9 games. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but if putting in one extra youngster in the last 9 games would have resulted in a worse run than that then the whole youth system needs a big overhaul.

You're giving examples of individuals covering up the fundamental structural problems of our side. Missing Ake's 1v1 defending ability shouldn't see the whole structure crumble. If it does then the foundations aren't sound.
It becomes structural if several players are missing as well and the replacements are nowhere near.

So disappointed feels like everything is against us at the moment.

I want 2 players in January.

We’d have won that if Doku and Grealish had started imo. Nunes and Savinho didn’t offer much.

Can’t control games anymore, haven’t got the players to go up and down, easy to score against and not creating enough with possession when on top.

We control games we can't control the transitions because we haven't got the players

Injuries have shown up the club for trying to penny pinch now for years. Only pep was keeping it together with a phenomenal rodders.

Now it’s bare and for all to see.

World class? Not anymore.

We can blame the club all we want for the recruitment, but it was briefed time and time again , Pep is happy with the squad, doesn't need anyone else he has solutions. So you can blame the board but Pep also takes a little criticism for his stubbornness, he was offered Kyogo if we go by reports and turned it down.

Also he was happy going into the season without another midfielder, only that the Gundo opportunity popped up we signed him. If that Gundo opportunity hadn't come up we would've gone with what we had.

Also now we know from City journalist that Pep was more out than in , in the summer so he mightve thought of this as a last season with his squad

Apart from awarding them a free kick for every every single slight touch, dishing out one of the most ludicrous red cards you'll see this season and then capping it off by blowing the final whistle when Doku is one on one with a defender who he would go past with ease.... yeah he was faultless
Victim mentality.
He blew on 4 mins, that was the added time.
We've had worse decisions go in our favour. Rico talked himself into the first yellow, unprofessional.

Blaming the ref is easy. The team were abject, Bernie just admitted in an interview that we're not good enough.

Forest are far better than Palace, we beat them because we got a few players back and changed the midfield a bit with Grealish there, so of course we lose two defenders and Grealish feels unwell and it's back to the same shit again, these injuries need to stop somehow or we'll struggle to get top 4, unless we sign several players in January and that rarely happens, the injuries are killing us.
Of course injuries are killing us but so is the shit recruitment, injures will clear but we'll still be stuck with 2nd rate transfer buys

Sums up the season so far.

Getting none of the breaks and even the red cards are shocking. That said, with age and injuries, it was always going to be Herculean to even compete with the supposed cream (Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Villa) coming into this season.

Players, both fit and half fit, are being flogged to death and against young, fast, hungry opposition, we seem a step slow and always second best for the loose ball.

The whole story is in two facts:

We have not had two clean sheets in a row in the entire first third of the season.

We have had to come back from behind more often this season than in the last X seasons, and it happened twice today.

As for the individual players, this was another game where few players covered themselves in anything even resembling glory, but two standouts would be Dias and Walker…for completely opposite reasons, of course!

Dias was imperious and blocked everything in front of him and Walker continued his poor form, being at least partially at fault for both goals.

For the first, he played the scorer onside when he should be leading the backline (but his arm was for offside, at least!!!).

For the second, he simply stood rooted to the spot while the man he was marking had the freedom of the air 4 yards from goal. Absolutely SHOCKING defending, but wholly in character these days.

A special mention for Bernardo, who covered every blade of grass three times, rarely gave the ball away, and was always available to relieve the pressure of their press.

We are really struggling to both put together clear chances and do anything but play Plan A at about 50% of normal efficiency.

The drop off from our top 14 or 14 feels bigger than it should, and we just do not have enough difference makers on the pitch or on the bench at the moment.

Haaland scored a great header from a beautiful cross.

I feel like that sentence should be written every few games, yet I can’t remember the last pinpoint cross he put in the net.

Additionally, he should have buried that dink in behind from Kev shortly after their goal, but it found the keeper’s ugly mug instead.

Losing 2 points to teams in the Bottom 3 is certainly not the stuff of Champions, and we look and feel so far off that title that it’s painful at times.

I have tried hard to see the First XI World Champions qualities in numerous players in the team/squad, but we are sorely lacking players of that quality this season.

We need the 115 settled and Txiki and Hugo to sort out this squad. The holes are clear and obvious and the need to spend big is the same. Nothing short of “would walk into any team in the League” is needed and nothing short of “Wow!” should be the required expectation from the fans based on who is brought in.

I won’t hold my breath.

Good fight. Good spirit. Just not getting the breaks when we so desperately need a few, but that’s football! After the last 7 seasons, it’s hard to act like we haven’t had our share of good fortune and favor, so it’s time to buckle down, work hard, fight for every point, and hope we are Top 4 material and can snag the FA Cup (…or the Champions League!).

Come On, City!

Dias is absolutely mint. How he’s not our captain baffles me.

Another thing he need to get Walker off marking the key men at corners.

The Boys in Blue didn’t give in. They fought to the end. Thank you City, thank you lads, thank you fans. You showed ‘em you showed ‘em all even if we didn’t beat them.
You showed that load of bescumberring, ructabundes who know nowt and say even less. The shower of codswallops.
As for the Specsavers needing, whistle blowing quisquillian, rampallians they need kicking from one end of the football pitch to the other. And that from a woman who does not believe in violence but could suspend belief for the time it takes to do the kicking!!! Rico Lewis is not a dirty player and did not deserve that even the BBC pundits agreed. You lot of shiitake mushrooms just cannot allow yourselves to know who you are dealing with. MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD.

We are still the best and will remain so.

Sorry for the rant but I hate being cheated and that is how I felt we were today. :-(

Of course injuries are killing us but so is the shit recruitment, injures will clear but we'll still be stuck with 2nd rate transfer buys
Well yes but unfortunately we can't do anything about the shit recruitment until January.

Why did he deserve to go.. seriously
The player fouled him not the other way round..
He didn’t get there and clumsily lunged in. A minute before he got away with one and then proceeded to whine at ref. It was clear as day his head had gone and a second yellow was inevitable. Absolutely needed to be taken off.
