Crystal Palace (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I do like to give it a day or two before coming on after a frustrating result, and while i agree with the we played crap rhetoric, as we know we can play better, i do not believe we deserved to drop points, this result like many other came on the back of shockingly bad refereeing/VAR/ linesmen, we are getting targeted by these organisations, and in years gone we could rise above the corruption, this season that rallying is beyond us, so we are left with the joy of football, lets enjoy that knowing results and trophies will return.
After all we could gleam good football Niall Quinn.

Ok, finally got round to watching the match fully and calmly, and I now better understand why there was so much negativity in this thread in the immediate aftermath. On the face of it, a draw at Palace looks like an acceptable result, given that they've given us problems in the past.
So many misplaced passes! So many balls not properly controlled!! Far more than I'm used to seeing from this team. First goal — who on earth does Rico think he's marking? And if he's not supposed to be aware of Munõz, who is moving into what seems to be an entire meadow of space, then who the hell is supposed to be aware? Second goal — really poor from Walker. A free header. In both cases, neither player seemed to be aware of where their man really was. Michael Brown on the OS commentary says “City are controlling the game”. Well, control without threatening? Because that's what it was, especially in the second half.
Nunes had an ineffective game, there's no two ways about it. Yes, there was the cross, and it was a good one. That's it. I've defended him, or rather I've asked for more time on him. Well, not an impressive match. Rico, who I've also defended — he got simply dispossessed at least two times, and it might have been three. And it led to dangerous counters by Palace. The lad just gets bullied physically. I admit it — in a 50-50, he's simply not going to come out on top. Anyway, it's invidious to single out individuals.
Man of the match by a country mile — Días. Thank God for him, at least. Where would we be without him at present? Fifth? Sixth?
We're far from being credible title contenders. That's gone. We may get top four, I think we will, because everyone behind us is pretty iffy, too.
But there is some major renovation to be done, now.

It's a real myth about our struggles at Palace. It's always felt like a tricky place to go and a difficult game, but actually they've tended to get results at the Etihad and not at home. We last lost at Selhurst Park in 2015. Before Saturday we'd won 8 and drawn 2 of the 10 games we'd played there.

Palace were absolutely shite against Ipswich. And they weren't much better on Saturday. Tough conditions but as has been the case recently, absolutely criminal defending and silly mistakes in possession cost us.

Until we can keep Walker and Rico out of the team and use them more sparingly we're going to struggle and if they do play then they have to defend better and the attacking players have to help them out a lot more. It's a real shame we couldn't have played Akanji and Ake due to injuries as we'd have won with them on the pitch. I don't mean to be harsh on Rico, he scored a brilliant goal and he's a kid with a brilliant career ahead of him. But Walker's time is done.

I watched the full game on City+, I thought Walker was ok. I don’t blame Walker for the second goal. It was a well weighted corner and Walker could not get the ball even he had jumped. I think Walker did what he could do to hassle. On the other hand, I thought Walker ran strongly and proactively in the match.

On the other hand I thought Silva played quite badly in this game. Too many errors and made quite erratic decisions almost every time. although got an assist.

Gundo was ok to me. He certainly could not control the tempo at back but still way more experienced in DM than any other ones available at the moment.

No at the Forest game we had Ake fit which helped our defence big time, Grealish in midfield also helped, then all of a sudden Ake is out again and Grealish "feels unwell" whatever the fuck that means, and Akanji out too means we have to play both Walker and Lewis, you can't have any consistency when you constantly have to change your defence which gets zero protection from the non existent midfield anyway.

Couldn't disagree more. Lewis wrongly getting sent off with 6 minutes to go hasn't cost us the game. Blowing up when he did is a conversation but we had over 90 minutes to turn that draw into a win. I don't recall too much going against us this season? Lets not turn into the scousers. We didn't win because we wasn't good enough, like a lot of games this season. Acceptance is the first part of dealing with it.

The best thing about Saturday was that new tactic we tried; the winger makes a bit of space, then sends in a looping, high ball into the penalty area, right onto the head of our 6'5'' centre forward, who then does a lovely header into the net.

I really enjoyed that. Hope we see it again one day.
