Fair enough, then explain why Newcastle had so much in the tank those last ten minutes?
Because they were at home and we hadn't put the game to bed and so human nature dictated that they'd have a go and we would soak it up.

If we had been three up or level then an entirely different mindset would have been in place and we'd have been pushing them.

Spot on.

Does anyone seriously imagine that were we 1-0 down with ten minutes to go, Newcastle would have been all over us and not the other way around?

Agreed, had we put away our chances it would have been a different game, but whereas in previous games....

our game plan wears them out.

That wasn't the case at Newcastle.

We both agree that City thoroughly deserved to win that game, Newcastle deserved absolutely nothing for that dire anti-football, but there can be no denying that game took a lot out of us, more than it should.

I've never played at any kind of level, but whenever any pundit / ex player talks about it they always say how a team with little possession and defending will run out of steam late in a game and find it hard to recover for the next game because its harder to to keep readjusting and covering than to keep possession and let the ball do the work.
Newcastle with 10 minutes left only needed 1 so they brought on attackers and threw everything forward, but it only lasted a few minutes the last couple and injury time we were back in control.

Fair enough, I've a feeling we'll be watching quite a few games like that one before the season is out.

Ofcourse it will not be an easy game at Palace (or wherever you need to travel in the PL). But to say our players look as if they suffer from a burn out, or Pep needs to adjust his team to the opposition, or -even worse- take a draw imho is beyond belief.
I can't see anything else but another win. Maybe not in the most fashionable way of playing beautiful football, but there are different dates for that. X-mas is about scraping points together, saving energy and keeping players fit and injuryfree.

If our players suffer from a burn-out so would the opponent. We have a quality squad so whoever we bring in or rotate, the same measures will have a much greater effect on our opponentns than on us. Yes, there are always a few surprises during the Xmas weekend, but they often occur in the first game.
We have played every system the opponents used and won. Why would we adjust? We all know it's the oponent who will adjust and most of them aren't used to that or miss the quality to do so. In times like this we need to play our game and be patient. Nothing more to it really.
How can some say on here a draw will do? Pep has installed a mentality in this squad that goes way behind a winning mentality. How else did we get to 18 wins on the trot. Pep and his players can say whaterver about breaking records, they will fully focus on a 20 win streak. A draw would actually feel like a defeat as they are so close to getting it. It's a record that does actually count. It won't bring you silverware though, but believe me, these players want this record and no way will they settle for a draw.

The generally downbeat nature of the posts in here are unfuckingbelievable. Have another look at the league table

I was a little pessimistic after the Newcastle game but before palace played le arse.

I think we will batter then now though as I’m sure they will try and give us a game.

3-1 city win
