Agreed, had we put away our chances it would have been a different game, but whereas in previous games....
That wasn't the case at Newcastle.
We both agree that City thoroughly deserved to win that game, Newcastle deserved absolutely nothing for that dire anti-football, but there can be no denying that game took a lot out of us, more than it should.
I think the Newcastle game was exceptional due to two factors. The first was that they were ultra defensive, and did what they could to conserve energy, packed the 18 yd box, didn’t chase balls further than halfway, players stuck to the structure rigidly and gave the impression they were not at all interested in playing...in the second half, the gamplan was revealed, change things up with the subs, try and get a goal by fast countering.....
The second factor in play was city’s awful finishing; it doesn’t happen very often but we do very occasionally look leggy and void of making the right run/pass. I think the commentary made the point that by end of first half we had more shots than any previous game upto ht....that demonstrates we created the chances but the finishing was poor
