Crystal Palace (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

It was flagged after the goal went in but it was also a marginal offside.
I don't understand why this is generating so much discussion?

It was offside - VAR proved it. It's as though some on here haven't ever seen a goal disallowed before.

I think there must be some TNT commentators on here. They couldn't stop banging on about it, either - although the genuine question about whether Palace should still have had 11 men on the pitch when the guy who might have been sent off scored their second didn't get a mention - unless they briefly touched upon it while I was still screaming at the TV?

I think the main thing with their offside goal was how he really didn't need to be offside. Our horrible defending gave him the opportunity to comfortably hold his line and get a goal. Offside and rightly ruled out

VAR says it was not offside and the result has been updated !

The happy clappers comment is a reaction to all the people who get angry at fans for being angry at a shit performance.

Let's be honest... how was you feeling yesterday after the first 30 mins of football? I thought we was gonna get smashed we was lucky not to go 3-0 down and people had the right to be pissed off I really don't see why they get abuse for being annoyed. It's passion, it would be worrying if they didn't react like that.
Tbh you guys are an embarrassment to yourselves. I have no issues with moaning about the team, wanting the manager sacked, players kicked out of the club. .. its the absolute flapping that you guys do. It used to be called shitting your knickers, nowadays it's called expressing an opinion. Nonetheless you guys shit your knickers every week. just basic flappers who can't cope with stuff.

I found the game on Saturday absolutely thrilling (in the end!) and for the neutral who just want to see a good game there can't have been any better. For some time now I have felt relief after (comparatively rare) City wins, but on Saturday I was absolutely cock-a-hoop! Yet some City fans seem less than satisfied even to the point of questioning VAR decisions, so I have watched MotD, the City website highlights and the City+ full match replay - and loved every minute! I have drawn several conclusions.

VAR got the "mathematical" decisions spot on. They confirmed the onfield decisions but backed them up with visual evidence. Palace's third "goal" was close perhaps to the naked eye but it was clearly offside. City's forth was close to the naked eye but was onside. The only decision I did not agree with was not "mathematical" at all but was the incident when Marmoush was put through by KdB. I thought he was put off balance by a tug on the arm and a penalty should certainly have been awarded and possibly more, but the ref's decision is final.

In general I thought we played quite well with the ball in the first half hour but we did give the ball away, we didn't press as a team. The consequence was disastrous as Eze put Palace ahead. For the same reason they could have had a third. What we were doing for their second god only knows! It seemed we took no notice of any opponent but were determined to prevent Ederson getting anywhere near the ball. In the event he didn't do at all well but neither did anyone else.

Fortunately we improved. We had much more energy, defended and pressed as a team, and, inspired by KdB attacked with energy and determination. Not back to the days of the treble but a best for this season.

Really good performance overall. The two Palace goals were very slopping from our POV, but didn't fully reflect the first 20 minutes of the game either. After Palace's second we basically bullied them for the rest of the match. Can see Pep is trying to find different ways to get past a back 5.

The difference between United game and Palace game for me is about individual performances rather than tactics. The players were weak, slow, and lacking in courage against United. The opposite was true on Saturday. I think we'll get top 5 (I actually think we'll get top 4) now.

I did reply but my comments have been deleted... I guess it doesn't match the bluemoon agenda.

It all started due to no one being in the left midfield. The palace winger dropped deep meaning O'Reilly had to come out of the line to pick him up, that then left a gap behind for another player to run into and cross. Lewis was unaware of Eze
I think Rico was aware of Eze but he can't drop ten yards deeper to cover him because City are playing a high line. Once they get in on the left he has to have insane recovery pace to get back. Palace had a plan to exploit the left and it worked

A few years ago Eze would have been offside , he was strolling back behind City defence and when they attacked on the other side all he had to do was stay onside which he did

exactly. We have conceded more than one goal this season from teams scoring this type of goal. It is targeted based on our high line and inexperienced defence.

seen highlights there's nothing in marmoush challenge thought penalty at game but poor miss
their second seen fouls given against goalkeepers given what they call subjective to colour of shirt there player clearly runs in and blocks ederson

There has been a precedent set for fouls on Ederson being allowed this season when Martinelli was allowed to just straight up blocked him from getting to the ball at a corner.

Great post

Even with the shite defending, it should have still been 2-2 by 30 minutes.

Some of the defending is a bit of a worry (has been all season), but overall we played as well as we have for most of the season, my biggest issue is consistency, which is where we have struggled most.
