Crystal Palace (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Food for thought actually. We did seem more mobile, fluid and efficient in attack rather than trying to find/feed Haaland when he's man marked/not supported all the time. Also after last week's derby I did give KdB man of the match (1 of only 3 votes - about 1%). This was not obviously universally popular (on sentiment as it was his last derby). But of all our midfield players he was the only one to try and pick a pass and initiate an attack. Didn't work then (crap derby) but it did a treat against Palace.
I posted for months that we needed a fox in the box to take the pressure off Haaland and to give us options for the final ball. When Haaland is back, we must not forget this period.

At long last we are seeing the best of Gvardiol now that he’s playing in his best position.
Mo more at LB hopefully!

If Dias doesn't get his shit together, I honestly would love to see a CB pairing of Gvardiol and Khus, reckon that would be very solid. Just need a couple of actual fullbacks and we might have a defence again....

Let’s see where those 2 are in another 12 months and revisit this. I bet Savinho has gone to another level by then and will be first choice on the wing.
Well he isnt ready now, thats for sure!! I predict Mcatee will be sold and then hit the ground running for his new club. And Savinho will still not be able to hit the proverbial barn door!!

Were in serious danger of making the same mistake with Mcatee as we did with Palmer if were not very careful…

It hasn't killed us at all and you're quoting his goal return & ignoring the fact that he's our leading goal creator. Those are numbers as well.
It has. Zero goal threat means the opposition doesn't need to focuses on him as much. That closes down space elsewhere. Im not saying he shouldn't be in the squad, he’s has promise and may well become a very good player for us in time. However he should be nowhere near starting games for us right now and we have paid a heavy price this season for this strategy…

Mahrez had 15 goals in 47 games in his last season with us. Silvinho 2 in 40 this season. The drop off is colossal, it’s a huge issue!! Nowhere near ready to be as regular a starter as he has been for us!

At 2 nil down there were a lot of justified wanking.
We could have been 4 nil down early in the game.
The resurrection of DeBruyne was incredible. The midfield is still not good enough and a good chance that 2 or 3 of them will be gone next season.
We could have scored 3 also in the first 30 mins or so

He was, but that type of foul is never given if the player stays on his feet and gets his shot off. Didn't look like there was much of a pull, but could have upset his balance as he prepared to shoot.
Doubt it would have been a red card as it wasn't dangerous even though there was no attempt to play the ball.
Maybe it wasn't dangerous but it did illegally stop the shot.

Great game today, little shaky defense in the biggining but who cares when our offense was back to the one we are used to see. Kev was amazing he showed his old self and that is was city missed all season. That and a proper replacement in the Rodri position but they fixed that I the January window. Really hoping we find right with the kdb replacement is so important. Many was really good today, like to point out Nico Reily he's not in a position he are used to play in but does damn good.
Made up when we came back from 2-0 or 3-0 if you listen to those tosser’s on TNT!!! As stated Nico O is a midfielder not a full back, bring in Kus into the middle of defence and put Josko at LB. Then young Nico can play in midfield with slightly older Nico. Thought Rico played well!! Despite what most on here say!! James is class and just needs more game time!! Omar is a breath of fresh air!! Come on the Blues stay in that CL place!!

Oh I didn't know this was happening before the game to be honest. Even still if someone didn't like the look of a line-up they have the right to say whether they agree with it or not.

This is something that's been going on for years on bluemoon not just this season. If someone posts something slightly negative, all the happy clappers start getting personal or start being a keyboard warrior to posters.

It's like when other fans come on here and disagree with something they get called a WUM. It's pathetic it's a fucking forum. We are all entitled to our own opinions. People don't need to start getting personal or attacking others, cos they wouldn't do it face to face.
Yawn

Closes down space elsewhere and yet again he's managed to generate the most assists for us - quite the achievement, no? Assisting goals is also a threat to teams, as I'm certain that opponents would rather he not create goals just as much as score them. Not really sure why you are characterising Savinho as starting as having such a disastrous impact on the season.

He definitely needs to score more, undoubtedly, but it's unfair to compare him to Mahrez. We bought Mahrez 2 years after he'd been player of the season at the age of 27. His last season with us was his fifth at City and ninth in the PL.

Absolutely no booing….although I was half expecting it after the third….although eventually disallowed.

All good in the end and at least we attacked with intention instead of the turgid side to side then back etc etc.

Like most people I was surprised at the starting line up with 3 x thirty somethings in the engine room.

I was glad to see McAtee in the line up but feel for him that most of his appearances this season have not been in his true position.

O’Reilly was left a little exposed by the set up….especially in the first 30 mins, but he’s a proper footballer and even though he’d have no doubt made the odd mistake, we should have given him more game time in the middle after Rodri’s injury.

Not sure what Kushanov has done wrong but defensively we would be better with him at right back instead of Lewis who sadly lacks the physicality and maybe bravery to play in that position…..Lewis could still make it at City, but in the middle.

Not sure what goes through Pep’s mind sometimes with his team selection, tactics etc…..but the evidence is that he gets it right more often than not.

Pep has an idea of what he wants from his teams, he trains and coaches them daily, he sees them in training and he knows who is picking up his methods best

On match day though the players have to implement that whilst also playing against a committed opposition who will have also been training daily to negate City and impose their own style on a game.

What Pep has done better than most managers in his career is manage to impose his style on more games with his teams

He is a genius and should be respected by us all. I gave up questioning this guy fully many months ago because once you do he usually does something with his teams that leave you thinking, why did i dare to question him.

It even happens in 90 minute games, yesterday is a prime example for me. The side was announced, many questioned it, it then looked bad when we go 2 down, then we win 5-2 and we could have scored more.

That is Pep

I slightly object to the comment KDB carried us. That would suggest he was a 10.10 and everyone else was average whereas several City players had very good games. Marmoush was also brilliant and could have had a hat-trick.
If other players had kept up with Gundogan when he went on those sprints forward we might have got more!
