Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Let's not become one of those fan bases that feel entitled to blow every opponent off the park. We lost simple as that, we'll get over it and maybe for some players it will be a reminder that no game should be taken for granted. I can't remember a game where we lost nearly every 50/50 challenge.

Credit must go to the pressing of Palace although for me it is hard to applaud any team that starts wasting time from the 6th minute. I also thought Zaha was disgraceful and spent the entire game trying to get players in trouble. The ref should have booked their keeper earlier but to be fair Kyle also took about 30 seconds to take a throw in stoppage time of the first half. We must definitely look at playing at a higher tempo especially when we face a team with 10 behind the ball most of the time.

In conclusion it was a poor result but we've been here before and there is no way we don't respond to this. Keep the faith blues it will be sorted.
Who was expecting to blow them off the park?

It was going to be a tough game, their tactics predictable.

We have issues in this type of game but don't seem to learn and we have issues with players out of form, fitness and don't address them.

We looked shocking today from the off, flat and so predictable, that's the issue people have the problem with.

From liquid football last week to slow and static this week. Very frustrating team at the moment as we’re just too inconsistent. Palace were set up well and deserved the points today. Onwards and upwards from here boys starting with a must win at the swamp next week.

Just home from watching my local rugby team Northampton Saints get hammered at home to the local rivals Leicester. Sounds like I got lucky - I might have been watching us.

Not one for hyperbole because we've shown over the past few years that we can hesitate in the first half of the season and come back really strong in the home straight. BUT for all our laughing at Gollum over at the rags, if they win at spurs they're only 3 behind us in what has been described as a "crisis". Not ideal

Didn't think Grealish and Foden were poor, but yep, spot on.
Maybe I'm being harsh. I probably am. From where I was sat in the ground they stood out for having especially frustrating performances. Stray passes, a lack of ideas when they got into promising areas. I get the sense with Grealish that he would have been trying stuff at Villa where today he was recycling the ball.

FFS this day get worse by the minute.

The only positive, we have probably dodged the biggest, slowest and worst dodgy bullet of all time in Harold Kane.

Fucking hell, if United beat Spurs, which it looks like they will do, and get their usual result against us then we'll be on equal points. Which isn't great, given how shite they've been.

I’m calming down a little bit now! I wouldn’t say that we were that bad a team today. After Laporte got sent off (which has been an accident waiting to happen unfortunately but I guess I would say that as John Boy’s most ardent fan!) we were terrified of going near them. When John Boy did come on I felt there was a lot more energy and there was one pass where he took the ball from the opposition player and turned with it before said opponent had even noticed it was gone that left us gasping! Brilliant.

Ok, ok I’m biased but it WAS excellent.
John stones was MOTM

Just got back after a thoroughly disappointing afternoon. We could have played for another 90 mins and still not scored. Can't quibble with the team as actually think that is our strongest side. Complacent passing cost us the first goal and poor defending the second. Despite a fair amount of possession we never really troubled them. Not quite sure why we have to pass the ball into the net. At times, very few admittedly, there was a shot on but no one took it, except Rodri and that went sky high. Don't understand how we can have so many good players but no one can shoot. Bernado worked hard but that's about it.

We really are a strange team this season. With the exception of Stones for Laporte that’s arguably our strongest starting 11 but still feels like there are a lot of square pegs in round holes.

Frustrating that we look like world beaters against Chelsea, phenomenal against Liverpool but pretty insipid against Palace. Our away performances arguably better this season, wondering if it’s a burdening expectation to win every game at home?

And nothing against Jack Grealish personally but he is not looking like a £100m player …for that I would expect him to be able to play a false 9 but he was piss poor there. As was Foden in the first half. At least Pep swapped it at half time ….but we do then have the head scratcher that starting Grealish means Foden out if hus best position

Anyway onwards and upwards blues, all forgotten next week when we thump them red bastards
