Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

Maybe I'm being harsh. I probably am. From where I was sat in the ground they stood out for having especially frustrating performances. Stray passes, a lack of ideas when they got into promising ideas. I get the sense with Grealish that he would have been trying stuff at Villa where today he was recycling the ball.

The Foden / Grealish dynamic is a concern for me.

Foden had the left wing position completely tied down last season, played brilliantly all season, was a real attacking threat and won a number of games on his own.

We then sign Grealish with money that could have been used on a proper striker, and so far we’ve hobbled him by asking to stick out wide and play a very distinct, disciplined role. This has meant Foden playing in the middle, where I think he’s a bit more inconsistent.

Early days but it doesn’t look quite right to me.

Bernie apart, the collective attitude stank from minute one. As soon as they scored I knew we were in for a frustrating day. Their keeper didn’t have a meaningful save to make in the entire afternoon.
As for the ref, the ridiculous time wasting apart and the utterly predictable 85th minute booking (which I called to the very minute after half an hour), don’t really see any big decisions he got wrong. The red card was fair.
Too many players are right off it at the minute. And the nonsensical complacency of not replacing our only striker in the summer is starting to cost us.

Have to say John Stones has the upper hand on La Porte he was solid today and rarely wasted the ball- it’s a combo that works - flat shows v wet spam and pAlice but ffs the standard of refereeing is poorer and poorer- I paid to watch the game and I got cheated by their goalkeeper out of a good few minutes - time to fix that for sure - it’s unacceptable and if this is a ‘sport‘ then something should be done

I'm sure others have said it, but De Bruyne was 2 yards off the pace today. Definitely not fit. I sit in 105 on the halfway line and he came off right in front and seemed to be limping on his right leg.

Give him an extended break, get him fully fit. Bernie, Foden and Gundogan are more than capable.
Needs to be on a fucking diet to start.

Last legs? That was the same line up that we had against liverpool and Chelsea and how it finished v PSG and we played some breathtaking football - as we did v Brighton for 70mins - in those matches. Says more about the challenge of a dodgy ref and a very well organised low block team with a game plan. No idea how we get round those teams, but just a hunch it doesn’t suit Kev at the moment.

i just think our best 11 is very good but the squad and little rotation is creeping in and our legs look very heavy
today down to 10 men for 45 minutes will make them feel ever worst tonight.

i just feel pep could use 2 or 3 more youth players in the home games to freshen up the team and give us more legs
cole palmer would and should be playing in the home games like today and rest KDB even the young left back Wilson-Esbrand looked great in the league cup game and where is liam delap for some minutes

Right I’ve seen it once at the game and not read comments on here yet, we all in agreement Ederson was fuckin horrendous on their goal ?

Too many of our creative players out of form (KDB Mahrez and Sterling).Torres injured. Gundogan coming back from injury. Grealish settling in.
Crystal Palace have a decent record at our place. These things happen. Some of our rivals have improved so we were unlikely to race away with the league We’ve come back from days like this before and may do again.
If not then the squad may need refreshing especially in attack.

This squad on it's last legs, what in the name of fuck are you on about.

we looked so so leggy today and we was so slow in moving the ball ? even the passing it from the back looked hard work ? KDB is a puzzle is he unfit or in need of game time to find his form ? we are just not ticking like we was before the international break

Just got back.

My 2p’s worth…

Pep needs to get on with making some harsh decisions.

Kev just doesn’t warrant a starting berth for now, needs to lose weight and get fully fit, he’s a passenger.

I’d like to see Grealish given a chance to play in midfield, the guy isn’t a winger. But either way, it needs him or Phil inside with Bernie.

Not a fan of Jesus out wide, I actually called it at the game a few minutes before Pep moved him inside. I think Pep needs to tell him he’s playing as a 9 for now as it’s ridiculous we say we haven’t got a striker when we’ve got one in Jesus.

Never been a fan of Laporte, too slow, and again said before game I’d prefer Stones, and thankfully he will now get chance to stake his claim on keeping the starting spot.

Way too early for a meltdown. 10 games in ffs. If we’re way off it by Feb then have the discussion then

I disagreed with someone on here a few weeks ago that KDB just needed games to find his rhythm. It’s just not happening although he certainly wasn’t on his own today. Some people are mentioning problems with his ankle but would that be a reason he can’t pass a ball 5 yards?

Thats it referee , book the time wasting keeper to hurry him up when the game is just about finished.
Worst City performance in a very long while.
I am not sure what Laporte could do with the sending off, Zaha was all over him before he went down.
Thing is it’s not that long. Southampton was equally as bad and we were lucky not to lose that too.

I suppose the pair of them had a cracking game at Brighton so there is a template, but I agree that when the liquid football breaks down you just want to see good players play in their right position and do a well-drilled job. There was moments today where players were stood in each others channels, swapping each other out of places and then standing flat footed when they'd moved them on. Now I've typed all that it goes to show the sort of edges that genius starts to look absurd.

Agree about Jesus. It sucks that he's playing really well outside but we NEED a striker up front and he's the closest thing we've got right now.
