Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

So far this weekend there has been 9 matches. One home win by Burnley, Liverpool drew at home, every other game an away win.

So much for home advantage.
This trend has been going on since the start of last season. It was put down to the lack of home support not giving a home advantage last season. But it’s continued

is it due to teams perfecting the art of setting up to defend deep and hit teams on the break? Not sure. If we’d have played at Selhurst yesterday I’m sure we’d have 3 points in the bank today

His issues look very physical to me, he looks and runs like an old man, he clearly is not fit.
What we do know is that he suffered ligament damage against Portugal in the Euros - made worse by cortisone injections to keep him playing. That's all any of us know isn't it. From personal experience, ligament damage doesn't actually knit back together - certainly not short-term. I wonder why surgery is never mentioned ? Kevin has been victim to some of the worst deliberate fouls I've ever seen.

why would it comfort me, wasn't overly bothered at the time, it's a game shit hapoens, and not arsed now.

But anyone who has seen walkers pace knows he would have caught up to zaha, it is reasonable to assume that
Unfortunately the speed of the chasing player doesn't come into it, its the last man that's the important bit

Surgery has been mentioned I think. One of the doctors (Cugat?) said that De Bruyne was one big kick on his ankle away from surgery that will put him out for several months.

Unfortunately, plenty of fellow Blues don't know what they're watching or fully appreciate it. Pep is a genius inventor of new ways of playing football - he doesn't do standard - if SM wanted standard he'd have hired a Klopp type coach. Don't get me wrong, Klopp is a brilliant coach, but he does what other coaches have done before albeit better. Pep is a Steve Jobs type figure, like Bowie and the Beatles. There's never been anyone like him and never will be again. Yes, there will be occasions when things don't work - the case with all geniuses - but in Pep's case it's rare. We have to accept it when the attempts to be different don't work - me and a lot of others just hate the Blue Moaning.

I’m guessing it’s already been posted on this thread a gazillion pages back but just looking up the xG I see we were 0.75 (Palace 1.05), which reinforced my feeling yesterday was different to most of our other poor results* this season, where we would still tend to get 1.5-2.5 xG even when we hadn’t won the game.

* the 3 PL games and 1 CL game where we’ve drawn or lost.
This was definitely a different kind of game. Of course, being down to 10 men for a whole half played a factor in that. Palace's xG went ahead of ours around the 75th minute once we were visibly tiring and more vulnerable to counters.

Still, it wasn't great for us numbers wise before the red as far as our own chance creation was concerned.

I thought the guys were really buzzing those last 10 minutes of the half and looked close to grabbing the equalizer. That red Laporte took was a back breaker right before half.

The injuries started the best part of 4 years ago and they are clearly taking there toll, the decision to play in the Euro's was stupid in terms of extending his top flight career and it may well cost him and more importantly us dear.

This is simply revisionist history. There isn't a person on this board who thought we were turning this around let alone winning the title by double digits when we sat 13th after losing to Spurs or even later when we drew at home to West Brom. Pep changed everything by pushing forward Gundogan and the rest is history. Marginals like Laporte red or Foden offside are going against us right now. That can easily change. Nobody much complained about ref decisions when we won 21 on the spin between Dec and March. Pep will try to find solutions as he did last year. And remember, both Chelsea and Scousers still have to come to

No I always felt we could win it last year if we were relatively close at Christmas and got into stride infact I am certain I said so last year. Now is different and although a pep masterclass can never be ruled out I think we are in for a season which mirrors April/May like form rather than that great run and Gundog purple patch. We have not strengthened in a number of key positions over the summer and 6 or 7 players look like they either don't want to be around, are looking past it or are totally devoid of form. We will still produce some excellent displays but I fear consistency will be lacking. I think this drop off will effect us more at home which means the fact that the dippers and the rest have to visit may not be much of an advantage. Again as always in the league it is what the opposition does that counts and if they break the 90 points barrier I don't thing we will. But hey Pep might prove me wrong and I hope he does..
