Crystal Palace (H) - Post-Match Thread

The quicker we reconfigure the stadium and join the two singing sections the better - I was sat in the 93:20 seats today (normally in family stand 1st tier) and the atmosphere was abysmal

on the game - thought we looked leggy with many sub-par performances. The gulf of space between the front 3 and midfielders was crying out for someone to take up the pockets and get their head up

think Laporte after that performance has given stones his chance (he was excellent when he came on)

the midweek game is bigger than the derby
pep should play more of the quality youth players we have at home vs games like palace just to fresh it up and rest the big players. we just look so leggy and dare i say slow and KDB is not the player he has been for 4 or 5 years

its a puzzle to what is wrong with KDB ? is it a injury problem that is taking a long time to get over or is it just burn out and got nothing in the tank. what i will say is we have B.silva gundogan foden all good enough for KDB to take a break of a couple of weeks and lets see what that does for him
No idea about KDB other than assuming the summer injury is having an impact. But he’s human - loss of confidence. Agree lack of pace and a bit of bite is the issue against teams like Saints, Burnley, Palace who are well coached sides - no shock that they can get a result, palace have the edge on the other two because of the intelligent danger of Zaha.

YET AGAIN, possession counts for fcuk all if the opposition score more goals than you do!!!

What is going wrong?
We get near the goal or even on an overload we turn back to let the opposition get settled. We need to be fast and direct at goal. Make them chase the ball back to their goal.
Our finishing against teams that we should beat is woeful. We insist on trying to score from inside the 6 yard box.
I’m not expecting to get anything from the derby now. We have played 2 PL teams lately and failed to score on both occasions.
Carry on like this and we will be lucky to finish in the top 6.

Lack of a striker not the problem today. The inability to pass to each other cost us dearly
I find myself coming back to your post, you are right the passing was appalling and everyone was guilty of this. I do think though that if the ball had fallen to the feet of a striker instead of Rodri, or for a striker to head instead of Jesus we may have put at least one chance away. But yes over all the passing was dreadful and was the cause of the first goal.

A wearisome game. We didn't play badly, we just didn't play well and we faced another team of athletes with a decent touch and perfect finishing. Did they have more than two shots on target? Kev was off it today, Phil never got on it, Jack was ineffective in the main and that leaves Bernardo 'n Gabby to bring home the bacon. And then there was Blind Andre. Funny how he sees everything that favours the opposition. I shall adjourn to the Ref Watch thread!
I think they had three, we had two weak shots that rolled to the keeper, he didn't really have to make a save.

We had loads of possession but our wide players were completely ineffective. We were basically relying Bernado or Foden to produce some individual magic to beat tbem.

We deserved to lose the game because of Laporte's errors. You can't make mistakes like that and get away with it.

Dreadful. Laporte needs until Christmas on the bench. Kev should now be benched in PL and CL games and must come off the bench and perform if he wants to be a starter again.

Grim day.
Sadly he's been showing signs for a few games that he was due a full-on performance like that.

Kev worldie that he is is either still fucked from the national team stuff or just so out of form add Sterling to that and rusty 'second string' players and no centre forward and here we are.

Aside from the ref also sticking it to us, we were our own worst enemy.

Laporte started as he meant to go on, which thankfully means Stones will now come back in to the fold.

No use keeping the pitch wide if you don't have anyone in the middle or at top to make it work today.

Palace forced us to play the extra pass out wide and doubled up on being aggressive on Jesus and Phil.

Cancelo and Walker were poor, as was Grealish, who seemingly wants to play safe and has had all spotenitity removed by Pep's demands.

We have a paint my numbers system, so it only needs to go a man down and the whole thing falls apart.

Pissed off with the decisions against us and thought it strange Pep waited five minutes to introduce Stones.

Jesus was our best player and felt we needed to try and get him and Bernie all the ball more in second half to try and at least commit Palace a bit more.

Eddie was ropey for the goal, as it was a scuffed shot.

We move on, Liverpool dropping points today was also a surprise and pressure now on with United to come.

Not at the races today. Individual mistakes and the lack of a clinical player cost us the points.

Get the boss a decent forward and the 15 chances created per game will be more than enough to win the majority of games. We did brilliantly last year to win 2 trophies but this season it’s looking like a season too much for the false 9.

We are stacked in wingers but no forwards. Sell 2 and buy 2 forwards to get us back to taking teams apart. The squad has hard working players in abundance but no player to score which is the hardest part. I will be disappointed if we do not get a forward in January. A loan would do until the summer.
Yeah spot on. We could get still get good money for Sterling and use it to buy a proper goal sorer.
