Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Weird I had Wigan 2013 vibes about this game all week. Only difference is I am now sat on my sofa and not on a coach in a queue on the M1.
I did too and probably posted after you to say same in the thread.

Felt off all week to me and when I saw that team selection I was like wtaf.

We are woefully short of decent players.

Im pissed off about today .
Im not pissed off with palace winning the cup, like the wigan game , fair play.i Iike that supporters of teams that have never won a bean experience the feelings we have.
Its ace

Im pissed off that we have let this slide so badly
that the men that are entrusted to run OUR club have stunk the place out in recent buys

its on pep too
Absolute nonsense no matter how you try to dress it up.

For me he cannot leave too soon, I want to have good memories of so many successful seasons and the best manager in the world. He's been opposite to all of that the whole season and I cannot see any improvement in this short time hell be with us. After he let go of many good players, he should let go of himself.
Just leave Pep, have some quality holiday and play a lot of golf, we ll never forget you, but the good times are over.

Deliberately yes as I understand.
Semantics - goes down to denying a goal scoring opportunity
The shite VAR looks at it and decides there's a defender in play to prevent the goal being scored - hence no red.
I can't be arsed at this point to check which side the "assistant referee" was on to decide it wasn't a yellow and a free kick (you may as well get shut of linesman these days as they aren't allowed to give decisions) - clear to all of us watching.

Remember the passion in 17-18 season against the game Spurs. Mangala was playing...silva had gone as his son was illl. Kane almost had a dangerous tackle on kdb. Kdb scores an angry goal and signals 21 in tribute to silva towards the camera. Where has that passion gone?

At severe risk of being a lesser blue with this post and bracing myself for it, but I played cricket today and missed the match. Serious question, what happened?

But it's not ridiculous, though.
It is entirely feasible that Pep has become obsessive about the possession of the football.
Remember, Pep has had a very stressful year away from the grass.
If he doesn't have a strong enough back staff who can keep him grounded, there is a very likely situation that he has gone full mad scientist.
You say it's not Pep, but you don't like the wingers. The ones that don't wing...
The striker doesn't strike, and the creator is clueless.
Oh, and the Prem POTS from last year looks like he's been thrown into the squad after winning the chance to play from a raffle.
On the contrary to what you say, it is more than likely that the players are having their individuality removed.
I wonder why Jack doesn't play much?......
You can’t read into it mate. The team is not at a good level. Players are struggling for either personal or professional reasons or both.

Ran out of steam. New players so far not good enough. Wingers awful.

Pep only uses his system to get the team from defence to the opponents box. The rest is down to the individual and those individuals have been awful.

Let’s see how we aim to fix the problems and what players depart.

But in a major final, you hope both referee and VAR can get a major decision right for the good of the game
Yes, maybe it doesn't change Palace winning the cup because City did not turn up, but the pen save and Doku shot is not saved by the sub keeper

2 major chances Henderson doesn't save because he's in the tunnel watching
Refs hate sending a player off for DOGSO they are conscious of the ramifications especially in an import game more so when it early Lets face it if If they had applied the letter of the law he would have gone and yeah potentially spoilt the game for millions world wide
So, what would be a better option? For me the ref should award a penalty goal and the player stays on the pitch yellow card if it want an honest attempt to get ball
This would mean it remains 11 v 11 and the offending team still have the chance to get back
Would also discourage the foul in the first place

Time for Pep to go this summer. Goodnight Blues

Just got off a very quiet train at Gerrards Cross…..going to be a long night. (Started writing this hours ago)

We have just played nearly 200 minutes of football without really troubling the goal keepers of Southampton or Palace.

From behind the goal had a great view of the side to side turgid football we have been watching all season which ends up with the ball being recycled back into the middle and no end product.

Savinho was awful on the right but in his defence we delay the the ball getting to the wingers…but Pep really has to come up with another option.

Foden pulling out of tackles when he came on……KDB should have come off after about 60 mins, Akanji and Dias very ponderous on the ball……very little creativity.

Liked what I saw from Echerrveri in his cameo even though he should have scored.

Truth is we are just not good enough
Loved the arrogance from kDB to find a pass to Echerrveri when in space.Not. Should have been hooked instead of marmoush. Pep on a voyage with his crusaders is coming to an end. Forget the cup our Finals are the next two.

Yes, you must have been watching a different game. The one I saw involved us dominating and creating lots of chances. Their keeper had a cracking game. It happens.
We dominated possession but in over 100mins their keeper made just 6 saves. The penalty was a good save but the rest you’d expect him to make.

That game was similar to many we have played this season and to think it was down to bad luck is optimistic beyond belief.

Part of the problem now is it won’t make much of a difference who we buy attacking wise . We are playing a system where against soton , gvardiol and Lewis saw most of the ball . Today it was Akanji and Dias .
When the wingers do get the ball or an attacking midfielder, they’re up against a set 11 .
Not sure what nico and khusanov have done wrong since January and deserve playing time over most of pep’s favourites.
I also think either Haaland or pep needs to go for a coherent system .
Hopefully this is a seasons blip , I’m not convinced it is and scousers of the 80’s , arse , tarquins and the rags all probably thought they had a one season blip at the time .

The new contract killed off the release clause in his first contract, which Real would have taken up. There's no such clause in his latest contract which is probably why the club had to give him 9 years (at £20m+per year).
He's certainly not going to be hungry...
No, the point of a long contract is that it's means the chances of anybody being able to afford to buy him out of it is virtually non-existent.

It also means that if he continues to bang in 20-30 a season of more, with inflation over the years it's going to look like a bargain. As for hunger, I don't think I've ever seen another City player cheer as much from the bench when we score, or on the pitch if another player scores or is as annoyed or angry when we lose.

We are woefully short of decent players.
Sorry to disagree, because we generally don't, what we're woefully short of is a system that works with the players we have.
We have decent players. Pep insists on playing those with a history though and it's crippling us.

And how many saves did our keeper have to make?

We were the better team by far, it just didn't go for us today. These games happen.

Every one of your points can be refuted very easily.

Why are players struggling for personal or professional reasons?
Why is the team not at a good level?
Why has the team dropped off a cliff that took us 15 years to climb?
Why are new players not good enough?
Why are wingers awful?
Why have we run out of steam?
How do you know that Pep has changed his 2 thirds philosophy, and is now telling them how to walk the ball into the net?
Why is every individual awful?
"Let's see" is not going to cut the mustard for Khaldoon.

Every one of the points you make can be answered by "Pep is over coaching the players"
I have never seen a drop off of this magnitude in a football team before.
The reasons are because the squad of players are all fucked in the head and body, or the manager is.
Which one are you thinking is the most likely?
