Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

He's absolutely correct this is either corruption or a lack of knowledge of the rules or both. It doesn't matter if somebody was covering, the ball was going wide, nothing. If a goalkeeper deliberately handles the ball outside the penalty area it's a red card. He did and he should have been off. End of fucking story. Not in Attwells world though. Instead he stayed on to produce a man of the match performance. If this was against Liverpool it would be discussed in parliament. It has to be corruption and bias against our club there's no other reason why the laws weren't applied correctly.

No it isn't, just like a 'keeper should never be beaten at the front post, it is a commentator made up thing.

It was a shit penalty. Perfect height and speed to be saved

It was a 50/50 penalty, which isn't good enough really. Keeper goes the right way, he should save it.

We have all seen much worse penalties but, really, from there he should be doing much better imho.

Just got back, few hours hold up on motorway. Basically been awake a full 24 hours now. Absolute dog of a day. Complete sickener when you lose and to top it off the traffic's like that. Don't think I'll do the journey again unless I get the train. Off for some much needed shut eye. Hopefully wake up with some short term memory loss.

Thing is, KDB made a lot of mistakes (which I think is why he is being let go) but he also created some of our best opportunities. How is it shit to put O'Reilly clean through on goal? It's not Kevin's fault that the lad ballsed up the chance to shoot with only the goalkeeper to beat. And he also set up Echeverri with a reasonable chance, plus Haaland for the first shot on target of the match, which needed saving. I also think that the KDB of 2 or 3 years ago would have at least got his late shot in the second half on target but then he was in position to attempt it. So it was a very mixed performance with some outstanding passages and some that made me cringe.

Those were two really good chances and split second delays led to them being blocked. O'Reilly in particular waiting for the ball to move onto his left foot took an age (in football terms).

On the brighter side, I thought Echeverri was lively when he came on. Looks promising.

On the less bright side, the wingers had a lot of the ball without any end product again (other than one good save from Doku, iirc). And I suppose the question has to be asked about how we should use Haaland effectively against a ten-man defence. It has to be asked because I am still waiting for the answer :)

No you havent, you moaned about him before. And then you are happy when we win, then when we lose your are moany about him. I am noticing a pattern :)
You show me a post where I have slagged Pep off you muppet. I`m one of his biggest fans and ifg anything I`m too much of a happy clapper so get your facts right.

I thought Doku was our most effective player but because he was our only cutting edge, he was largely nullified by Palace double-marking him and when he did manage to beat his man, Palace managed to defend his crosses.

I have been watching City struggling to break down defences all season. It's not difficult to understand why. KDB is now almost useless, Foden's form has been very poor, and Rodri is injured. Savinho has the ability to beat a man but so far he is unconvincing.

Pep has been criticised a lot after this game but what can he do? My criticism of him this season was that he took way too long to identify O'Reilly as a first team player especially in that period when Kovacic was injured and we lost regularly. O'Reilly struggled today. He did have some chances but squandered them because he is one-footed.

I didn't notice Echeverri do much but he is a player who might be able to unlock defences.

There is no problem with Haaland, the problem lies in the quality of our build-up play. You can't play the ball over the top against a low block but the best sides face those tactics all the time. We need a right-sided forward and a no.10. Savinho and Marmoush may develop. Echeverri might also too.

Palace rode their luck imo. Even though we played poorly, we dominated possession and had more shots on goals and corners but our attacking game has been poor all season.

I got stuck on the train with a racist and misogynist group. In a packed train it's very difficult to get away but eventually I did. And I felt really bad about it. However, that is a risk of train travel to City away games.

You need some luck in Cup Finals. We didn't get any and weren't good enough to overcome a defensive but limited Palace side. I've seem that performance repeatedly all season.

We need to sign a creative midfielder because there's no guarantee that Echeverri will make it and Foden has struggled all season.

Let's beat Bournemouth, qualify for the CL and hope that Spurs somehow win.

Losing to Man Utd in the Cup Final was worse. I don't begrudge Palace fans their win.

When will be back again?

My issue with Pep is the predictable tactics. If he’s playing the 2 inverted wingers why the fuck aren’t the fullbacks over lapping? If he wants the fullbacks staying behind or inside why not put the wingers on their natural sides?

It’s baffling as the whole area is too congested.

And don’t get me started on a player who’s not going to be deemed good enough in 3 months playing 100 minutes yesterday. Should be coming on last 20 when he’s still sharp around tired legs.

I wish he'd mix it up a bit. Every team knows how we're going to play and how to set up against us now. Different tactics needed for different games. This whole, city style of play that has to run through all our teams, including the women's ia utter bollocks. Play each match as it comes and set tactics accordingly.

There is not much alternative to KDB. He's the main man in this squad. How we replace him is going to be key. I has been a privilege to watch him but the end of his career at City has been a protracted decline. We're now a team in transition and the future is uncertain. We have another final on Tuesday.

I don't think there's anything new to learn from this game. All the features we saw have been on display all season.

A small positive is that Pep put on Echeverri. He must have done well in training to impress Pep. Really that's just wishful thinking.

I want to know what Pep said to the Rag at the end.
Guessing he called him a cheat.

I don't think the problem is tactics. If you play a low block, you end up with attack v defence. The problem we have is that our right-sided forward is struggling, yesterday that was Savinho and then Foden, and KDB is static and too slow to break lines, and get off his passes. He's grown old. There are no tactical solutions for a playing squad that is in transition.

Whatever is was Pep shouldn’t have said it and should have shook the guys hand, it’s a Var mistake nothing to do with the player.
Nah, he knew what he was doing.
Just like Maradonnas hand of god.
I get Var ultimately fucked us (as well as us fucking ourselves by being shit)

But he knows what he’s done and why he did it.

But yeah, not great to see from Pep.
