Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

All great teams don't always win. They did a number on us. However, how many times do we get done down our left flank on the break. Its happened time and time again this season. As for Doku and Savinho I would have started with Jack and Phil who at least have an end product.
Is this a wind up? Grealish has never had an end product at City. Phil is in a bad place and shouldn't be near the pitch at all.

Have thought this for a while now but we are just totally boring to watch. Notwithstanding yesterday's result, there's no excitement watching us anymore. We pass the ball but for the sake of it and without purpose, it's so monotonous. I can't remember the last time in the past eighteen months where I've actually enjoyed watching us. There's no enjoyment or tempo.
Palace at home

Newcastle at home

Forest at home

There’s 3 but I do get what you are saying also

Not even close. The side next season will be completely different from this one.

Can't wait.
different - yes
better - debatable - depends on whether we qualify for CL or not....if we do we can attract the better level of player - if not then we are back to attracting tier 2 level players and that is not progress

What can we do if the other teams put eleven men behind the ball?? We move it trying to draw them.out, occasionally the wingers get crosses in but they're just cleared or blocked. We then run the risk of them breaking on us. We've lost the art of the little one twos around the box due to Fodens and others drop off in form. Personally I'd get more shots off quickly as there's always the chance of a deflection.

Savinho is average at best

It's like the latter Wenger era at Arsenal

Just totally devoid of any excitement or tempo. Considering we were 1-0 down yesterday the speed at which we played was appalling. I don't know any team in a final who'd be so insipid with 60 minutes left.

Like I said we don't play with any risk or tempo. Everything is safe and backwards. We played with two wingers yesterday yet the midfielders were totally afraid to support them. The speed at which we passed the ball was dire. You don't win games playing like that and we haven't been able to up the tempo all season.

Any VAR apology yet? No doubt Gillett will be allowed to go about his business without issue for the next round of games.

You have to move the ball quicker. So many times we go backwards but at one mile an hour. We have two wingers who don't run in behind, the centre backs pass the ball side to side without trying to break the lines, and considering the attackers on the pitch yesterday we don't even flood the box. It's all safety first and nobody wants to take responsibility. To me it's reached the point where we're genuinely boring to watch. Results like yesterday can happen but I don't feel like we're doing the utmost to even try to beat times. The football is dire and we play without any risk.

Rooney doesn't understand VAR. The referee was unsighted so didn't see the play, the linesman was behind the play so couldn't see if the handling was in the box or not, so couldn't advise or overule the ref, so no foul was given on field. VAR can ONLY overrule the on-field decision if EITHER it was a penalty, OR it was a red card offense - either a serious foul or denial of an obvious goal opportunity by the last defender. We all agree it was outside the box, so VAR can't interfere on that basis as it therefore couldn't be a penalty. Erling hadn't actually touched the ball before Dean got a hand to it, so it clearly wasn't in his control, so it fails on the denial of a goal opportunity point as well. VAR therefore could not have interfered. Yes, you can argue that Erling probably would have got the ball under control if Dean didn't push it aside, but that's not the test: did he have the ball under control at that moment? No, clearly not.

Relatively neutral here, A TEAM beat a collection of individuals yesterday. There's a photo on facebook of Foden, his Mrs and one of his son's all glammed up for some event or other. Doubt there's similar of Palace players. Too much
celebrity status, has it all gone to there heads?
Sorry, Im not one for excuses normally- especially around ref decision/VAR etc but if what you have written is correct by the laws of the game then its down to interpritation of whether it was denial of a goal scoring opportunity and/or a red card offence

As someone else said a keeper deliberately usng his hands outside of his area has as far as Im aware always been a red card offence for starters.

If not that then:

Denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity...if the keeper doesnt use his hands then Haaland gets the ball...its the keeper that pushes the ball wide of the goal by using his hand outside of the area...its arguable that Haaland would have been in control of the ball if the keeper doesnt push the ball away - he uses foul play to stop an opponent with a goal scoring opportunity

For what its worth its a blatant red card for me

For what its also worth we didnt deserve to win and Im not blaming us losing on that - we are just not good enough anymore and the quality of the players and squad has fallen off a cliff

Change the approach and the pattern of the game. Let them have the ball.

Pep won’t do that though.

I still don't get it. He did not play wingers in the Southampton game that we needed to win and did yesterday in a game where he could have brought them on late on and for extra time. Genuine question, when was the last time you watched one of our games and really enjoyed the football? Pep is a great manager and Haaland a great footballer but something needs fixing soon.

I remember Khaldoon saying years ago to forget typical City, this is new City now. Us old hands just smiled.....we knew....
That wasnt typical city - lots of people saw and expected that result - its been happening all season - if anything it was completely predictable - all you had to do was watch the Southampton game for starters.

Typical city was all about the unexpected or fucking it up when we shouldnt - that was completely the opposite yesterday - it was obvious we werent going to win with the way we have been performing all season (the last recent run of games we have ridden our luck hugely and its been far from convincing). Weve been poor and it continued - nothing unpredictable about that.

what is different is the fans expectations - some seem to think we are still a good team - we aint - the drop off in quality in the squad is there to see - some dont want to admit it and are therefore "shocked" at the performance....there was nothing in that performance yesterday that shocked some.
