Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Gutted.

Congratulations to Crystal Palace, their 1st ever major trophy, can't begrudge them that.

I actually don't think we were that bad, probably the better side but horrendous finishing cost us again. A better side from previous years probably would have created more chances though.

Now for the big one, VAR. It won't help but PGMOL owe the club a massive apology. As far as I'm concerned VAR should no longer exist after that game. It should have been 70mins against 10 men.
The decision to not send Henderson off has cost us a trophy today.

It's the worst decision in the history of VAR and Jared Gillett should be sacked.
Atwell showed the blatant incompetency that got him removed from the so called 'Elite', and I use that word conservatively list of referees a few years ago! As for Gillett, been involved in a few VAR controversies in the past! Well, the FA and the Media got the result they wanted! Wouldn't have done for the FA to have it's one Cup competition won by a club it's in conflict with!

Pep has made many blunders this season. Nowt wrong in flagging them especially when it's costing us Blues an arm and a leg to watch it over and over . . .

Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees and atm Pep is in the middle of a huge dense forest and a bit lost.

As brilliant a coach as he is his career does have moments of him making inexplicable decisions on big occasions that backfire badly. He did it at Bayern, I think it was in the semi finals against Barcelona and they got smashed. He did it for us against Chelsea in the champions league final which we lost. He has done it again in our last two games which has put our champions league place in jeapordy and lost us the fa cup final. I guess he's human and fucks up.like we all do from time to time.

I've just watched this from big Steve and he's summed it up perfectly. Something isn't right behind the scenes this season. We all know about the injuries but the last six weeks we've had enough talent fit and available to get back on track, which until Southampton and yesterday we did. Dropping points there which has now put our champions league qualification on a knife edge and losing our only chance of a trophy on Saturday was down to Pep, nobody else, Pep. He's said countless times when the players stop listening and believing in him he'll know it's time to go, has that now happened? The question has to be asked because it's totally baffling what's happened this season and in particular the last two games.

We all know Nunes isn't the long term answer at right back but he's done a decent job of it and has improved massively. How do you think he feels getting dropped for Akanji, who offered nothing on Saturday save to pass the ball sideways and backwards. Why couldn't Grealish get onto the field to offer something different when it was obvious Savhino wasn't working? Why didn't he throw the wildcard of the young Argentinian kid on earlier? How does Lewis feel after having a great game against Forest and scoring to not get a kick in the final? Lastly why, why did Pep change and disrupt the whole team, the team that at long last, after a shit season, had finally found some rhythm and form and was winning games, to shoehorn Akanji and Haaland back in? Why, fucking why?? His brainfart against Southampton cost us two invaluable points. We couldn't score against a team that had conceded eighty four goals. Eighty four fucking goals yet we made them look like prime AC Milan in defence, so inept were we. If he was resting players for the final well we all saw how well that worked didn't we?
We spunked two hundred million on players in January and only one is getting a game. Why? After wailing all season about the massive hole the Rodri injury left in the team, why did we look at and identify a player to fix that problem, spend sixty million pounds on him, then don't play him? Why, fucking why??

All these questions need to be asked. Has Pep got enough credit in the bank to rebuild this squad and team? Absolutely, but that comes with a big but. That but is every Empire and Emperor has it's day and gets deposed in time. Look at Mourhino. He was once the special one, a serial trophy winner and now he's just a sad caricature of what he once was. Has Peps style, which was once all conquering, been found out and is about to be consigned to the history books?

We will soon find out once this annus horribilis season, sadly extended by this bloody world cup fiasco finally ends. I'm ruling nothing out, big shocks could be coming.

This shows how clueless fans can be.

We had many, many, many injuries AFTER winning 4 in a row, theTreble, and braking all-time records in England and Europe.

It's perfectly normal to have a bad season after such a period of unseen success in England. The players and the manager are not machines.

"But they should have managed the transition better!"

Well, you can't predict how many (key) players are going to get injured. Rodri has been absolutely fundamental to us, more so than any player in the history of the club, even though many can't realise it to this day.

Also, medicine and sport science ain't mathematics. You can't simply show the door to Stones, Ake, KDB, Bernardo, etc. and tell them they are injury prone, old or something. You can't simply throw new players in if they are too young and know nothing about the PL.

The idea that Pep is the one to blame for our season, even if true, doesn't imply that somebody can do next season better than him. Pep had a trophyless 1st season in England and then had the best league season in history. I very much doubt many on here could predict it back then.

Stand behind the greatest manager in history instead of being pathetic moaning cunts.

thank god it wasnt apparent in the lower tier how out of his box Henderson was when he should have been sent off - the sense of injustice wasn't there at the time because we didn't realise, put the whole debacle of a game down to the missed penalty and our inability get past the Palace defence... 78% possession FFS and a combo stat of the last 2 games of 49 goal attempts and no goals scored...

Do have to say, big screen's in the ground and we were still none the wiser as they were not showing what the VAR stuff is looking at is criminal.

Geniunely thought the red card for henderson was actually for something that went down near our penalty box.

also the city fans nearly coming to blows inside in the seats over a young child waiving a flag is criminal

Really? Jesus what is wrong with people. Didn’t see as much blue on blue this time but still plenty of arguments about standing in top tier.

Your first sentence has proved absolutely correct regarding your post, well done lol.

It's not moaning, it's giving valid opinions on something we pay hundreds of pounds, maybe more to watch. As fans/spectators, whatever you want to call us and yourself we are perfectly entitled to do so.

As for standing behind the manager and team I do it by paying for a season ticket every year and I did it by spending two days at Wembley this weekend, at a minimum cost of £400 that was before taking into account food and drink.

City were poor but can we stop this Palace deserved to win shit. They weren’t very good and had 1 shot. 1 shot. Honestly they didn’t deserve to win. As bad as we were the best player on the pitch was Henderson.
tbh they had 2 shots, both went in the net. Football's not just about scoring goals, it's about scoring more than the others, whether its 1-0 or 5-4, so whilst it might not be entertaining, and with the caveat of ignoring the very blatant red, Palace did deserve to win.

2 years ago we'd have won that game by 4 or 5

The club is rotten at the moment. Think back to Autumn last year - top of the table - Pep was leaving this Summer but we had 9 months to plan. All was rosy.

Then the wheels came off, no direction from a board too nervous about 115, and Pep does a complete turn and decides to stay.

Next is an absolute car crash remainder of the season in PL and Europe where Pep seems lost. Next up the most bizarre £200m transfer window ever seen.

Here we are in May with KDB sulking since told he was being binned, Bernado calling out the cowards in the team, and the highest paid player in the country scared to take a penalty. Oh and the club captain couldn’t get out quick enough in January, and a player given his full debut in a cup final.

But good news is there are loads of new signings coming in - and these won’t flop like the last 5 tfr window signings - we are looking at a lad at AC Milan to replace the lad we paid £50m in January for that has made a couple of appearances.

And to top it all off a board determined to piss off all legacy long time seasoncard holders as much as possible in the hope we fuck off and leave space for tourist and fans of opposition teams to pay wildly inflated prices.

Absolutely rotten. But fingers crossed the cowards and those leaving after next week will give everything to get 2 more results.

I didn't mean you specifically, generally I like your posts.

But football management is not exact science, mistakes are made, mistakes are inevitable. The thing is to keep in mind how successful this team and manager has been and to show understanding they ain't machines.

I'm sure they suffer more from this season than the fans, because they are utterly ambitious and competitive. It's their life to win and then again. Sometimes it doesn't happen. Even the biggest clubs have bad seasons or periods. Liverpool and Arsenal have 5 PL titles together, United have been a joke for 12 years now.

Shit happens. Pep is a born winner. Much more than any fan. He might decline but it's too early to write him off. I think he can and will build a 3rd great City team under his management, the first being the 17-19 team, and the 2nd the 21-24 team.

Yes nobody had a fucking clue where I was stood what was being checked except it was for a possible red card. I feared maybe it was for one of our players! The sun was so bright in my eyes it was hard to make out what was happening on the pitch half the time.

No idea what the flag situation was about but that Wembley for you. Full of entitled coked/pissed up bellends who think they can do exactly what they want and bully anybody who disagrees with their behaviour. I fucked a few off who tried to stand in my space which was already overcrowded by people who didn't have tickets for that area but wanted to stand with their mates. "Can I just get in there?" Pointing at my seat space. "NO!!!!!" was the answer.

Ahhh okay, cheers.

It's what fans do, we dissect everything , discuss it and yes have a moan, especially after a defeat. Then we get pissed, have a good kip, dust ourselves down and get behind the lads at the next game. Rinse and repeat.

I'm sure Pep and the players are doing exactly the same.

We know how to moan us blues boss. But we also never stop supporting this great club and fanbase.

I also had no idea what the potential red card VAR was for and thought it was a City player getting looked into. We probably wouldn't have scored against 10 men as is would have become even harder to walk the ball into the net with all of them defending.

Blues fighting blues is nothing new at Wembley. There was plenty of it at the Wigan final that I saw with my own two eyes.

That's it in a nutshell. We're a family and like all families we squabble, fall out and fight, but we stick together. Every so often a family will have a sit down, air their grievances, reset and be better for it. This season is our sit down moment.

On reflection,it’s a pity the ball didn’t come down fast enough for Haaland to smash it straight in the net after the penalty save rebounded out..

You must be fucking joking..soft as fuck .. perfect height for the keeper and nowhere near the corner..
Fuck me I have a fucked up knee replacement and I could hit the ball harder than that and with more precision..
If you think that was almost perfect then you must be fucking drugged up
Of course you could, not a great pen but let's not believe for ONE minute you would have scored it.
