In previous seasons we have caught themI'm more fuming about it now I've had more time to think about it, than I was straight after the game yesterday.
We're 5pts down on this stage last season and we keep throwing away stupid fucking leads with ease. We literally should be sat here 8pts better off (wins against Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Palace) but we've given games away in stupid and spectacular fashion by complacency and defending like idiots. Yesterday was just a joke in the last 20 minutes. No game management, no subs, basic errors from experienced players.
When we come back from Saudi we simply have to go on a winning run. Pep needs to find his best team and stop experimenting. We have 2 perfectly good midfielders in Nunes and Kovacic, please stop playing Lewis in midfield. At the back, let's go with what worked so well last season - Akanji, Dias, Stones and Ake. A solid base to build from. I understand why he tinkers every year but it isn't working now and we don't have as much room for error anymore. The rest in front can sort themselves out. We have enough there to score goals, that's not been a problem this season.
We're beating ourselves, which is so frustrating. The only positive at the moment is Liverpool, Arsenal and Villa are catchable. In previous seasons they probably wouldn't be.
Chelsea result was the worst, like Liverpool x 3, that's when our mini-meltdown (although it looks like everything but 'mini' right now) started. But I agree with you, it is all about mentality and composure, or total lack of it. I have no clue where do we go from here, the more Pep and the players come out with the fighting talk, the worse they are. There is no issue in terms of quality of our players. This is mentality and composure. I can forgive the Chelsea result, sometimes you get mad games like that. But to concede late on against liverpool which led to 4pts dropped in the final 10, we shouldn't have been conceding late against Spurs. We should have been composed, keeping the ball and keeping our shape.
We were safely in possession and then give it away, they attack and we turn into a shambles. Rico wins it back and then, rather than seeing the game out we lose the ball again and then panic and give away a penalty.
Usually we see games out comfortably. The players have no idea how to see things out. Someone needs to start leading this team.
Yep. We beat ourselves. Feels worse this morning.Match of the day pundits talking out if their arse. Praising Palace for staying in the game. Nonsense, that result was all down to us, 2 nil down against us at the Etihad is not 'staying in the game". One nil down and teams were usually done for, at two nil down they may aswell start the bus.
Our shoddy defence threw that away once again, had sod all to do with Palace (who only picked up one point out of the last fifteen!!) staying in the game, they were terrible.
I stayed to the end, didn't boo but I also thought those who did were booing the ref. Agree with the rest of your comment too.Played well for 60 minutes then instead of going for the third like we used to, we sat back. Asking for trouble.
And I thought the boos were for the ref personally - frustration at the last minute pen,
Now let’s go win another
I'm the same when it happens at other end of the ground..bloody eyesight getting worse every season..old age is a pain lolCheers. I couldn't see a foul from my seat, but it's probably over 100 yards away.
