Genuinely surprised by the some of the comments here. I don't begrudge City their money and I like the fact that they have shaken up the traditionally bigger clubs, but you have about 11 players individually worth more than our entire starting line up. In football on average you tend to get what you pay for. It would be suicidal and stupid to come to the Etihad and try to attack. Look what happened when Arsenal, Tottenham and United tried it. Yes you can say at the end of the day we came away with nothing, but surely if any club should understand the importance of goal difference in recent years it would be City. With the bottom half looking so tight goal difference may be a factor. What could be even more important is we kept moral high for a big game on Wednesday. Our squad is not very deep and we had a couple of key injuries and were playing again after 48 hours what do people expect? With that being said apart from Liverpool we came closer to taking points than any other team and Hart made an unbelievable save whilst Ward had a bad miss.
Maybe one of the reasons we sing is because twice in the last 15 years we have gone into administration and were close to not existing at all. That puts things in perspective. Also shows that being too ambitious can come back to haunt a club.
Yes we were defensive, but we were not dirty. We did not target any of your skillful players, did not dive and worked hard. What more can you ask from the players. Even if you are going to be more expansive, away against City is not the game to try it.
A year staying up and the financial stability that will bring is far more important than being the great entertainers like Blackpool and going down.
