It's a freak circumstance because three of Moscow's top-flight clubs are in the process of having new grounds built - Spartak, CSKA themselves and Dinamo all have stadiums under construction now - while they just closed Luzhniki, the national stadium, for renovation in time to open for the Confederations Cup in 2017. So there's only one top-flight stadium open in the city right now, plus a couple of smaller sub-20K venues that would ordinarily used by clubs outside the RFPL. That means clubs sharing, and with record-breaking rainfall in recent weeks, the surfaces simply can't cope. I'm sure City, UEFA, CSKA themselves and fans of all clubs in this CL group are incredibly frustrated, and I do sympathise, but unless the weather continues to be really poor in the next 3 weeks, I suspect we should be OK, unlike Pilzen next week.

Not much consolation to our fans who've shelled out a lot of money for tickets if it does have to be moved, I know.

Is there a reason why the Lokomotiv stadium is not being considered as an alternate?

That's being shared by Lokomotiv and Spartak at the moment and is as f**ked as Khimki. CSKA and Dinamo are playing at Khimki while they build grounds at their respective traditional homes because geographically Khimki is in the same direction out of the city centre as where they play, just a fair bit further out (it's actually beyond the city boundary and further out than the last metro stop on that line). But I presume they'd rather play there if it's possible, although I'm sure if Lokomotiv's stadium were fit now it would be used for the Pilzen game.

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

I have only just read this thread. Nightmare ! My flights, hotel, ticket, visa etc... all sorted.

If they end up moving it, I hope the City stars / or the club are going to get their hand in their pocket to help us out.

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

Just priced up train from Moscow to St Petersburg if the match gets switched. Lots of trains but round trip £80.49 + £75.62 = £156.11

3 hours 50 outbound - overnight back to Moscow takes just over 8 hours.

If the game is switched this looks like an option for those of us that have already sorted our trip to Moscow.

Its alright. I'm currently researching possible travel options including hitching a ride on a mobile missile launcher from Red Square, then transferred onto a missile submarine called Red October (Blue September is in for repairs). We should arrive in St Petersburg in November. Best I could do. All trawlers are booked up.

I travel quite a lot between St P and Moscow - I worked in St P until the start of 2013 and my family is still there, so I spend most of my spare time there. I generally take the train when I make the journey.

Your problem with the train is that there's a pretty limited number of fast trains which serve demand between a city of five million people and a city of more than double that. The prices tend to go up the nearer to the date of travel you book and in any case you'll have thousands of CSKA fans wanting to make the same journey if the match is switched.

If I were you, I'd look into internal flights as well. I have less experience of this method of travel, but it tends to be a bit more expensive and there'll be demand from CSKA fans for this as well but I suspect you're more likely to get tickets by the time we know where the match will be.

Sorry not to be more encouraging. As I said, though, I think the odds are it will be at Khimki - let's hope so.

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

cska will play plzen in st.petersburg next week.

http://pfc-cska.com/en/news/?id=7166

Due to the poor quality of the pitch at Arena Khimki, the UEFA Champions League matchday 2 game PFC CSKA vs. Viktoria (Plzen) will be played at the Petrovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg (Petrovsky Island, 2-G).

The date and time of the match remain unchanged –October 2, kick-off at 20:00.

pfc-cska.com will shortly inform about the usage of tickets bought previously for Arena Khimki.

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

I had sent an email to supporter services and I received a phone call yesterday morning.

CSKA, UEFA, and City (to an extent) are doing all they can for the game to go ahead as scheduled at Kmikhi as planned. She couldn't say with any certainty that the game would definitely be played there though, because nobody knows for certain. Essentially, City (and probably even CSKA) don't really know any more than we do at this stage. As soon as the club know of any deviation to current arrangements they will inform us, but they are hopeful that it won't come to this. I wasn't told this but the implication was that they would leave any announcement about changes until as late as possible, to give the pitch as much opportunity to be repaired.

The club have sorted Visas for the players and the club officials for the game to be played in Moscow, so it is suggested we do that too (for those who havent already done so).

Given another 3 and a half weeks, and hopefully better weather conditions, I would hope they can get the pitch playable so we can remove this worry.

Thanks, I see no sunny day in Moscow for next 2 weeks. But hopefully not change venue.

That's slightly disappointing. I used that exact website yesterday so not sure what's changed. Hopefully it will be alright anyway

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

It was snowing in Moscow today in the morning and was raining 6 hours later. I think it will start to snow in the middle in th emonth and there'll be no rains on the week of the match

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

Visa arrived back from the embassy today. Fingers crossed for the Khimki pitch now!

I hope they already started relay/repair the pitch. CSKA will try their best to have this match at Khimki for their supporters too. Now there is no match playing at Khimki as far as I know. Hopefully pitch will be recovered during this 3 weeks time. Otherwise I will catch Колобок bus to St. Peter.

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

No action on a pitch for three weeks should be enough for our game to go ahead.

Game or no game, where's everyone going for a pint? :)

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

I'm on the easyjet flight from manchester on the day of the game and I'm going for the piss up anyway so if anyone on here is sorting a minibus out please let me know.

I'm flying home the day after so I was just planning on having a good session until I have to go home so I don't need a hotel but the visa application asks for the details of where I'm staying and I'm presuming putting the pub on there won't do, could I just put someone else's hotel details on there or will i need to book an hotel, if this is the case can anyone recomend one, cheers.

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

You need more than just a hotel booking. You need the hotel to provide you with a visa support document for the application, it acts as your invitation to Russia. You won't get a visa without one. Some hotels charge for this and some won't give it unless your room is pre-paid.

I've got a feeling you need to check in somewhere so they can register your visa once there. It might be difficult to leave if your visa hasn't been registered. There may be a way around it but I'd give one of the companies that sort visas a ring for some advice. I used www.realrussia.co.uk and the club recommended another one. Good luck anyway

Re: CSKA Moscow v City (Wednesday 23 October)

You need invitation letter to apply for visa. The hotel/travel agency/company/person who gives you invitation is acting as your host providing the accommodation for you. You just put their name into visa application form.

Practically some travel agencies can provide you invitation letter without accommodation. You only pay for invitation letter fee. In this case you still need to put their company name into visa application form. And when you arrive Moscow you can go to other travel agency and pay money for them to register your visa. You can contact Russia travel agency from internet and pay money on-line for so called invitation letter but please note it normally take 3 - 10 days for invitation via internet. So it would be easier if you can find UK travel agency who you can leave your passport and they sort out visa for you.

Regarding visa register, If you stay in hotel, hotel can register your visa when you check in.

In any case, you don't have to register your visa if you stay less than 72 hours.

Please re-check from net, I am just a traveler been in Russia few times.
