Here, there, and every fucking where
After a great night out i have finally surfaced and doing the usual, scanning the internet with a brew and bacon butty (brown sauce obviously). I thought i would have a look at the floods which have hit Cumbria, a mere 80 miles from Manchester. I am stunned at the devistation which has been caused. When we hear the word "flood" in this country we expect the odd road with a couple of inches of surface water, the odd river that is high and fast flowing, even the odd stream bursting its banks. But this is much different. What has happened in Cumbria is being labeled as a "once in a thousand year event" and my god they seem to be correct. I quite like nature and the force and destruction which she can throw as us when she wishes. Think later on i am going to have a drive up there to have a look around and to witness the devastation for myself. Here are a few links of pictures, and look at the webcam at the ferry on windermere, i have never seen anything like it, i will post some more of my own pics on here later on.

Gordon Brown has donated a full £1M from Govt coffers to help out. I can't help feeling if this was somewhere nearer London a lot more help would be forthcoming.

Believe me - i am in the heart of this shit and i hope it only comes around once every 1,000 years!

Be fair though he has expenses to cover, if it is a choice between helping people who have lost everything in their homes and paying for a few duck islands for his friends ponds I know where the money will go, its a disgrace.

Any one who live's in and around Morpeth in the North East ( as a example , there are more places ) will tell you it isn't a one in thousand year event . Morpeth resembled Cockermouth with a fast flowing river heading down the high street .

i actually surveyed the block of flats itn were reporting outside of yesterday in cockermouth. couldnt believe it when it came on. i always remember the owners asking for a report that painted as bad a pic as possible as they wanted to knock it down and redevelop the land. bet theyre well chuffed with this.

Id love to know how the escape route from potential a disaster at sellafield would be managed!!! My old man tells me the bridge at Holmrook is closed, that cuts off the southern route (the one that you have to drive through a farm yard at broughton.....) maybe this mess will bring the road that so many people have argued for in west cumbria. Its a true poor relation to the eastern lakes, suffered from years of underinvestment, it doesn't surprise me that the bridges are falling apart, they probably haven't been repaired since they were made in Victorian times!!!
