Cup final loss against Wigan V cup final loss against Spurs

Spurs by a landslide, especially after we totally outplayed them the first day.. Still hate 'em to this day. And that stupid TV ad with Ardiles and Villa...ugh.

Wigan I was disappointed but didn't mind so much. Probably with me being 30 years older and the recent success we had, it wasn't so bad. Plus I don't begrudge Wigan their moment in the sun.

I went to the cup final in 81 but remember not being able to go to the replay as it was a school night.

Now getting on in senior years I took my dad to the Wigan final, spent a fortune that day and yet again we lost. That evening the heavens opened as we left the ground. I've nicknamed my dad 'Jonah' now!

Incidentally, for those that can remember him, my mini claim to fame was that I worked briefly with Steve McKenzie as he attempted to change his career to a computing lecturer. Anyone know what he does now.... ?!

Its the Spurs song about Ossie Ardiles that still makes my blood boil today... #"Spurs are on the way to Wembley..."

ARRRRGH !!!!

Wigan battered us on the day and they were a small team who will never get there again. No problem with the pie eaters taking the glory that day, we live to fight another season.

I concur, but the loss against Spurs in 81 hurt and hurt for a long time. I've hated them every since. Wigan I couldn't give a toss about, although now Uwe is there I want them to do well.

Do you remember when Sheron sent us 1-0 up at the North Stand end in the FA Cup Q/F? Didn't last long.

One of those days as a City fan you just don't forget.

Do we celebrate our goals now as keenly as we did then? We were desperate to get to Wembley

Let's hope the team shows up on March 2 and don't take Sunderland lightly.

The better you are, the less a cup final defeat hurts.

Spurs was a 9 on the Lutonometer, Wigan was about 3. I was over it by bedtime.

No big deal, we will be back next year, was how I felt.

I was there in 81 (both games) jeepers remember having school the next day & sleeping all the way home in the back of my Dads Ford Escort! Hurt for years compared to the taking it on the chin whilst back @ Wembley against Wigan. I'm positive having been there to witness our win over Stoke the previous year helped mega. O & a small matter of going wild whilst the Blue shirted hero's picked up the League Title too :)

I never heard of the Lutonometer before Dave, and i love that phrase. I assume that the QPR title winning game measured a 0 on the Lutonometer? :)

19 when we played spurs, was gutted, thought we had been robbed, I felt great sympathy for the players and myself. The Wigan game was different, we didn't deserve to win and felt let down by the players and the club as well. The Mancini sacking was sweeping round Wembley well before the game and the players put in a poor show. I was pleased for Wigan though, I live in Wigan and know plenty of match going fans.
