Cure for cancer

I feel i can comment on this. we have been fighting this sh#t thing for 5 years , my wife has had both breasts removed (after a tumor first then both boobs) and its now in her lungs!
We have spent way in excess of $250,00 (NZ), sold our home gave up a good business, over 5 years paying for miracle cure treatments from pharmacutical companies that are not free or our health insurance companies wont cover as they tell us its not a proven cure!
The ilness does move in its nature and is hard to target but i do also firmly believe that these drug companies are working hard towards a cure... We have done several trials of new types of medication....
There were cures years ago for illnesses that killed millions,
Well i have to really believe this dont I ?
Am i a cynic... mainly yes, but i think ive paid my dues to them for my cure!
END OF RANT!

I was told the other day that it's not a matter of money to find a cure as researchers and scientists have billions set aside. It's the actual technology, equipment and understanding of the disease. I was told it is more a question of time and advances in the above 3 than not enough funds. Not really sure if thats true or not it just sounded quite plausable.

Drug companies spend more on advertising than they do on real research..

if every country with nuclear power spend the money on a cure instead of missiles it would be defeated very quickly.

This^^^^^^^ The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have so far cost the UK Taxpayer in excess of £20 billion (without soldiers wages and treatment of injury costs) yet in 2010 only £504 million was raised by Cancer research uk

In these Austerity times the uk launched £130million of missiles at Libya in ONE morning

A truly stunning display of ignorance!

Has anyone in power ever died from the disease?

Either they are very lucky or like others have said, the cure is out there but only to a select powerful few.

I love a good conspiracy theory but this is just daft.

I've got more than one friend who's had cancer and is now all clear. The cancer isn't 'cured', it's just removed or twatted with chemo. Sometimes drastic measures are used like removing a whole organ.
Granted, access to the best doctors, surgeons and equipment is more likely if you're minted, and this can only improve survival rates. But the NHS treats, and cures, people from all walks of life every day.

It's not daft at all, like others have said, what effect would a cure for these diseases have on the world? Longer living, less of the population dieing etc

My dad was diagnosed with it August 2007 and passed away December 2007.
Personally I feel he could have lasted longer but he just ''gave up the will'' to fight it. Watching him waste away was awful and watching him trip on the morphine kind of funny.
Yet, now I see these ''walk of life'' charity events where thousands of people walk the streets of various cities with the aim of ''together we can beat cancer'' and just wonder ''will we ever beat it?''.

It's like unemployment. If there was no unemployment, there would be no job centres.... and no one working in job centres...

Drug companies hold all the cards. Governments are the wagging tail of GSK and the others and have rock-all to do with development of 'new' drugs. They couldn't suppress the release of a cancer cure even if they wanted to.
If there is a 'cure' being hidden away somewhere it'll be because the company that invented it will be waiting for the time when they can make maximum profit on its release. None of this is beyond the realms of possibility but i can't see Cameron or Obama being handed a secret pill and keeping schtum about it.
