Like you say, they''ll take our money, and we pay a premium these days, but they'll do jack shit to make sure we see as much of the game as possible.

I remember a couple of years ago when a hurricane was hitting Manchester. The Police were advising everyone to stay indoors but the club still wanted the game to go ahead. I don't think it was cancelled until bits of the stadium began falling off and progranmme stalls were rolling through the car park like tumbleweed!

That was Sunderland at home,we got just round the corner and they then announced it was off :/
 
All last night decision will do is convince a lot of fans not to bother with night matches going forward and will hit ticket sales. I doubt people are going to rush to buy everton cup tickets after that experience.

Luckily I went by train as I can't stand the drive to night games any more. Manchester is a mess traffic wise at the moment. How people do that every day for work I don't know.
 
  1. I was in town trying to get to the game. Gridlocked .Had to park the car up on deansgate and jump on the tram. Of course only went to Piccadilly. Walked it to Bradford road and eventually flagged a taxi. I missed 10 mins of the game. Going back for my car was bloody hard work. Big queue for the tram but finally made the platform. Where's the trams? Waited ages for a frigging tram ffs. They should have them lined up ready to board and go. Amateurs, won't be using again.
 
The trams are more trouble than they are worth and they have a knock effect that they have been prioritized over the cars in the town centre making the traffic much worse as the trams haven't taken enough cars off the roads because they don't work as transport system. I for one will never get on a tram again they are an absolute joke. Mind you I suppose the Labour council will be happy as they will use the traffic chaos to try to get congestion charging which has been their plan all along.
 
I got there on time last night but I came from work in town so just hopped on a train to ashburys and walked.

At KO the ground had as many empty seats as there were people and there were people still coming in after 30 mins of the game.

At first I thought it was horrendous ticket sales but obviously the transport delayed a load of people and some just gave up. Something's gotta give in Manchester, the transport is terrible.

Everton stand only half full too and away fans normally set off earlier so illustrated how bad it was. Good turnout from them last night but quiet as ever!

My dad said the same (I'm in 116 so couldn't see), said there was practically no one in the away to begin with, then suddenly they had all 3 tiers full.

Did the match actually sell out or was it near to doing?

There were still plenty of empty seats in the 2nd half but it looked much better than the first 20.

It really does say something you're right. And it also says something about people giving up because it's that bad.

Last night wasn't a case of the usual traffic problems though. It was a perfect storm in many ways and much of it was down to the accident on the M62 earlier in the day. The motorway was closed off for hours and only re-opened at around 6.45pm I believe. This closure caused a huge knock-on effect in and around Manchester and it meant that as rush hour approached all the main roads were pretty much gridlocked. I work in Trafford Park and live in Gorton. I get a lift home and left work at 4.45pm. There have been issues on the Mancunian Way due to the sinkhole since August but in the past week much of the stretch of the Mancunian Way that had been down to one lane has now been widened to 2 lanes and that in turn has meant a much quicker journey home. Instead of taking 40 minutes it's been taking 20 but last night that went back up to 50. I was one of the lucky ones really - anyone travelling from much further afield than that and coming through town later than I was travelling home would've been totally scuppered (even those going nowhere near the city centre had major problems - my boss lives in Wigan and it took him an hour and 55 minutes just to get off Trafford Park last night when leaving work at 5pm). Add to that the problem with the dickhead driving onto the tram tracks and that's another mode of transport fucked for anyone that relies on the tram system to get to the ground.

It was just a horrendous night all round with all modes of transport apart from the trains being affected. It was a bit shitty not to put the kick-off time back but while that would've helped some fans, for those that simply couldn't get to the ground - both City and Everton fans - it wouldn't have made any difference.
 
Fuck night matches. I've missed loads this season now as I simply can't get there on time, I was only coming from Rochdale last night, set off at 6pm and was on the M602 by 6.35. Took me til 6.55 to get to the Eccles junction, so was ever going to make it on time.

The only ones I can see me going to are the ones that are worth finishing work early, and losing money in the process, and getting into town for about half 4
 
I must have walked about 5 miles at least last night. Had to get off the bus on the way home. Walked half the way home, then to the ground and back.

Rush-hour and the City Centre is in grid-lock. Too many major roads shut with Metrolink 2nd crossing. It's going to go on until 2017
 
I managed to get there for half time last night and the amount of people still getting in at that time was crazy. Just a horrific night for traveling. Think in future I'll just stick to getting the train on night games.
 
Seriously considering not bothering with night matches. Last night was just horrendous. The amount of road rage and frustration on the way down was frightening plus rushts jr not getting home till 23.30 on a school night. At least our chips, peas and gravy was nice.

What and pay to be stuck in traffic?. Maybe they should get rid of bus lanes that cause congestion, get turn left on red and look at measures that help traffic flow and not hinder it.
If as a driver you leave big gaps in traffic jams, then think on because you are making the jam bigger and causing congestion behind you and use all lanes at traffic lights / junctions not just blindly sit behind the car in front
 
I may be wrong but these sort of problems don't seem to happen as frequently in London.

Probably because loads more money has been thrown at the infrastructure in and around the capital, an also because they have the underground.

If only we could have built an underground network instead of the piss poor Metrolink, not much chance of a car driving on to the track then.

I think our train service in this country is shit and that's half the problem. The trains are not big enough so workers take to their cars instead of being packed in like a sardine on rush hour trains. They are overpriced, are not frequent enough and the stations have shite parking facilities. They also stop too early in the evening. Why do we have a system where the last train stops at 11pm for many. The last train back from London to Manchester is 9pm. Why is that? They are spunking billions on this fast train bollocks instead of ploughing the funds into local services.

When I worked in Manchester, I don't remember ever getting a seat and didn't even get on the train some days as it was so full. I was charged £30 a week for the privilege and now it would be £40 a week.
 
Didn't do too bad considering. Left Preston at 4:45 and had to go home to Dids first. Hit standing traffic on the M60 near Trafford Park so got off and headed through Trafford Park which was no problem as all the queues were in the opposite direction. All went well until I got near the swamp where there was a big queue for the White City roundabout but managed to avoid it by cutting through the swamp car park on Matt Busby Way. I had to pretend I was going to the rag shop to the steward on the gate. Got home for 6 and out again at 6:45 and got in the stadium just in time for kick off after quite a long delay on Devonshire Street. The people next to us got in five minutes into the second half.

Exactly this ! Suppose it's return doesn't warrant the investment. Tickles me when at Wembley they can conjure up a train unit in 5 mins at any given station, whilst we have to wait a hour for a tram to come across town !
