Cycling Advice

I think moron season has started early this year.

Yesterday on my ride home from work I was:

  • Close passed by a double-decker bus at less than a handlebars width and the bus was doing at a guess 55-60mph.
  • Some stupid kid just wandered out in front of me from between stationary cars whilst I was doing about 15mph. Hood up, headphones on, never even noticed me as I slammed on and skidded to a stop about 6 inches from him.
  • Had a car door opened on me as I entered a left filter lane (I was signalling and I had my lights on).
  • Had a Deliveroo rider nearly T-Bone me at a junction as I was turning right onto a 1-way street. F*cker was coming up the street the wrong way. Luckily I checked right before I pulled out.
On the plus side my balance is perfect, my bike handling skills are sharp and I've got my emergency stop absolutely nailed.
All you need now is a car ;)
 
Pleased with how my come back is going !! Lol.

Up to 50 miles a weekend now , no side effects taking it steady 13mph average but no real hills ;).

Feeling really good now and after each ride I cant wait to get out again. I study the map to add on a few miles each ride. A real plus side is I am now below 13 stone but sweat like a pig for about 45 minutes after I get back. Dont feel overly hot on the bike.

I am really getting the buzz back for cycling so happy:).

My late dads bike is beautiful to ride and with me wearing my dads wedding ring I feel like when out on his bike he is with me. Soppy old sod .

Top tip for the hot weather - Drink BEFORE you are thirsty, and consider adding electrolytes to your water, especially if your sweat is particularly salty.

Being dehydrated puts a significant strain on the circulatory system which will cause a drop in your cardiovascular output. Once you are dehydrated it is very difficult to re-hydrate effectively on the bike and it is better to stop and fully re-hydrate before continuing your ride. If you are close to the end of your ride then it's probably better to continue, but at a reduced pace.

or you could just not bother riding aimlessly about in your sisters underware, clogging up the queens highway and preventing working people going about their business and put your feet up. ;)

Nah, f*ck em' ;-) Too many people doing short journeys by car and clogging the roads up for us cyclists.

A bloke who lives down our street pulled out ahead of me only the other day. Just a couple of minutes later I spotted his car parked up at the side of the road less than a mile away, and there he was bimbling into town. Lazy b@stard.
 
Felt pretty good when I set off on my ride to work this morning. It didn't feel like I was pushing that hard but I recon I've knocked a couple minutes off my usual time. Conditions were pretty favourable to be fair, cool but not cold and very little wind.

Clearly getting some fitness back after a long layoff.
Dya ever get those days when it all seems to click......gear changes seem perfectly timed, lights change when you need them....you miss the headwind.....i got to work in my fastest time ever this morning, but almost felt effortless!

This morning was definitely one of those days. I've got all my gear changes pretty much nailed on my route. Just before I start on the hill I knock it down a couple of cogs on the rear before dropping into the little ring on the front. I find it much easier doing this than when the drive train is properly loaded up on the hill. I found this morning that I was holding gears longer on the hill and still had gas in the tank. I also found that I didn't need as long to recover as I rolled over the top.
