Désiré Doué - 19 Year Old French Attacking Midfielder

@mattcity5 mentioned this kid in another thread, but I think he deserves one of his own.

Apparently Dortmund are very hot on the soon to be 19 year old, but so are Newcastle. He looks like a serious talent & I'd love for City to get a grip of this kid now before interest in him becomes a clamour & his value skyrockets.

Doué's natural position is an attacking midfielder, but his versatility allows him to play deeper in midfield, on either wing, or as a forward, depending on the formation.

A dynamic box-to-box playmaker with an eye for goal, Doué has been noted for his supreme agility, acceleration and pace, which combined with his excellent dribbling, shooting and passing technique allows him to be a potent offensive threat in a variety of situations.

Doué's super-strength is ball carrying, ranking inside the top two per cent of central midfielders in the top five European leagues over the 2022-2023 season for progressive carries (3.4 per 90), and the top one per cent for successful dribbles (3.9).

Doué's decribed by analysts as "an entertainer at heart, full of tricks and skills designed to shake up opponents". Despite being primarily used as an attacking player, Doué has also been praised for his defensive contribution, demonstrated by his average of more than three tackles per game in the Ligue 1, which has placed him in the top six per cent of midfielders in the league.

He's been likened as a more attack minded version of another Rennes academy product in Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid.

He is not Camavinga, and his control needs working on, but i have watched him and he does catch the eye, certainly enough to remember the name, so where does Lewis play the only draw back.

From what I've seen he can play wide left/right, as a No 10 or a box to box No 8 & potentially a No 6. The analysts believe he can play as a striker or false 9 too. I see Lewis as an eventual Gundog replacement & midfield is where he sees himself in the future.

As for the Camavinga/Doue comparisons, that assessment came from analysts who observed him closely backed by sports data, so it maybe because they see him as the next major talent to come from the Rennes academy why the link with Cama was made.

Taking into consideration he's 19 in a couple of months, he'll obviously need to develop further, so do you think he has what it takes to progress flourish under Pep? I've only seen clips of him, so I'm happy to go with your game-time performance assessment.

There will always be better wingers, but he is better than Kudus at West Ham and they seem to like him. His versatility and energy is his strength, because while he is not as good as Wirtz or Musiala in front of net, he is better in central mid.

I really like Kudus, so if you think he's better than him already, that's high praise indeed imo. So he's not as good a goal scorer as Wirtz or Musiala, but is he as creative? If you rate him as a central midfielder, would you see him more as a No 8, 10 or 6?
