In a much more inflated market than what Cookie worked in. Cookie could blow the competition out of the water, Txiki doesn't have that luxury, be realistic.

Who do you think is going to spend more than us this year?

We're the top spending club every year but have to spread it over 7-8 signing because Txiki buys a load of shite like Mangala and Bony

Its an inconvenience given the fact the club thought they had him in the bag,but players/people are ****s these days and shit happens.

We find someone else,we'll have options.
At the end of the day, foreign backup players aren't irreplaceable. If this was a HG player, it might be an issue, but it isn't.

All the talk of it effecting the Walker price seems farcical, as if Levy was going to sell us him cheaper because we already have a backup in place.

In the past when deals have gone sideways City have been very quick to get the message out in the press that we have walked away etc. However the legitimate journalists that tend to get the club briefings on both sides of the Channel remain remarkably quiet. Nothing about this feels right at all...

The people who moan at flappers hiding? This is exactly why some people flap as the longer things drag on the more chance of anything going wrong. I'd rather be a flapper than have my head up my arse that everything is ok. He was clearly a player we wanted in a very key position who we have now missed out on with weeks wasted
I wouldn't flap to much over a 34yr old fullback....would only have been a short term fix anyway. We shouldn't be papering over cracks in this position we should be signing the mendes of this world who could potentially be a part of something for years and years and grow as a team together. We don't need experience when we've got the likes of kompany, yaya, silva, aguero still knocking about. I won't be losing any sleep if we miss out on alves.

It's not just transfer fees though is it? Wages play just as important a role in these negotiations. Like I said, be realistic.

None of this is ideal. I'm not in the flapping camp but try to dress it up all you like... starting preseason with no recognized full backs is an absolute farce! If there are none signed by the time we go to the states I can imagine Pep will be fuming!

Thus will be down to playing time.

At PSG he will be first choice, at City he won't.

First choice? They already have 2 RBs ..... City 0

Didn't like him from before...Don't like him even more if he lead Txiki and Pep

Apparently Alves kept calling Txiki about getting the contract signed and we were just really laid backed saying "we'll do it whenever you're back from your hols", "we've got a yes from you, so no rush" etc. He called Txiki a couple times more to get things sorted but just kept being met by voicemail.

PSG called and said "get here asap and we'll get the contact signed" and that's what he did.

More like it's down to Paris suiting him. Also tells you he doesn't think he can hack it any more so a blessing in disguise in some ways

I was thinking the same. I'd like to go back and see which ones were the ageists and if any of them are flapping. Would be interesting to see who flaps for the fun of it.

Think a more appropriate word would be concerned and for the record I though getting Alves on a free was an inspired bit of business. For me even given his age he's a better player than Walker. So I am gutted. He and Raheem/Bernardo, Leroy would have caused some serious damage down the right.

I find it odd that people on here say its fine, move on, not bothered, yet all over the thread we say in pep we trust in the players he wants. Pep clearly wanted him and has done all he can to get Alves to sign. We have zero right backs and the one Pep wanted was all but signed and now he's fucked off to PSG and we are still without a RB. Yes we may get Walker, but where as before this it was important, its now an absolute must and Spurs will know it. So for people to say it doesn't matter basically says Peps judgement in players is shit.

If this is true it's a bit of a ****s trick and I can't see Pep being too impressed with his "mate".

It could simply be that PSG have promised him a first choice starter position, whereas at City he would be rotating with Walker. And even if he believes himself to be the better player he would know that no club would spend £40-50m on a player and not give him plenty of opportunities.

All's fair in love, war and football.
