Darren Cann | Named as linesman vs Palace for his final game (p11)

He's retiring after tomorrow I think so probably let him do the team he supports he's a decent lino plus can't really let a offside goal in now anyway with var in place

Remember that Peter Walton asking can he ref his last game at Everton because he loved it there so they let him and he was a cheat one of the worse

Are people deliberately bumping years old threads?
There's good reason, Darren Cann has been removed from officiating in games involving Palace twice before, he shouldn't be allowed to do this one. The reason why I posted on an old thread was to draw attention to an inappropriate appointment about him again.

I never knew that about Walton, but having had the displeasure of watching him referee several City v Everton games he never tried to hide his bias. He was one of the most corrupt referees going.

Maybe, maybe not. Personally, couldn’t care less. I cannot imagine, for one second, he’ll be wondering whether to give us a throw in or a corner based on him being at Palace as a kid.

While I agree. The 2017 original thread was confirming he'd been taken off a Palace game due to the connections. So it's a bit strange that he's been given Palace as his last game when there's 9 other matches to choose from.

Without looking, I'm presuming he's done loads of their games over the years so it's either the 2017 move that was odd, this one that's odd...or neither, really.

I really don't think matters. The guy is from Norfolk and there's nothing to suggest he's a Palace fan at all. In fact, seeing as he never made a first team appearance there's just as much chance he holds a grudge against them and wants to do them over.

Either way though, he'd struggle to have as much impact as he could years back due to VAR dealing with the tight offsides.

Just leave him to it and do our best to get the game won.

Walton refereed Everton more than any other club. He always denied he was an Everton fan.

Yeah if a remember correctly I'm sure he got a tour of the ground and a shirt from Everton after the match

So what he’s from Norfolk? There’s millions of people in this country who support a team from more than 100 miles away

Which is what he might do too. I'd expect he has more of an affinity towards Norwich than Palace though, seeing as he was born in that area, lives there now and started in their youth team before heading to Palace.

Hopefully he won’t want his last game to be remembered for giving any even slightly controversial call in Palace’s favour
He is more likely to be remembered as the linesman who contrived with Attwell to determine Rashford was not interfering with play, when shepherding the ball for Fernandez to score in that infamous Manchester derby.

Didn't he flag offside & the cheating bastard Atwell, aided & abetted by pgmol overturned it
