Darren Cann | Named as linesman vs Palace for his final game (p11)

Didn't he flag offside & the cheating bastard Atwell, aided & abetted by pgmol overturned it
He initially flagged. He then talked to Attwell, and it also went to VAR. Although Attwell ultimately gave the decision, Oliver on VAR and Cann, the linesman were not vehemently opposing the bent decision. All three were culpable in my opinion.

No apology came from Webb. He just laughed about it and said we wouldn't expect to see that scenario happen again without offside being awarded. The message being that is ok to cheat against cheats.

Don't we as a club have the audio of that incident, and there's meant to be a mystery voice on it, not of any of the officials involved that day.

It might just be a conspiracy story that I read somewhere, I can't remember.

I really don't think matters. The guy is from Norfolk and there's nothing to suggest he's a Palace fan at all. In fact, seeing as he never made a first team appearance there's just as much chance he holds a grudge against them and wants to do them over.

Either way though, he'd struggle to have as much impact as he could years back due to VAR dealing with the tight offsides.

Just leave him to it and do our best to get the game won.
For some reason I had it in my head he lives in Lymm

If it means fuck all why has he apparently never been allowed to officiate in a Palace game until today?

To add to my other blunt reply.

I genuinely don't believe any ref or linesman goes through all the training and lower leagues without wanting to do their job well.

I also don't believe that any ref or linesman can be that interested in the game from an early age without having an affinity to a club.

I also don't believe that so many top flight officials actually grew up supporting non-league clubs as gets declared.

I don't think they do that so they can try and cheat though, I think they do that because they don't want to rule themselves out of refereeing in big matches or at the main stadiums. And then they do the best they can.

The reason they get prevented from reffing teams they have a link to is just perception and possible fan outrage.

They could have a perfect game, ideally. Or they could have a game where they actually make a big wrong call against the team they have a link to. It probably happens.

The problem arises when they get the same big call wrong in favour of the club they have a link to.

Then the accusations of bias, fixing, cheating all come out. When it's just a genuine bad decision.

So the try and avoid the possibility of upsetting fans where possible by not giving refs/linos those games. Maybe they don't care now as it's his last season? I dunno.

Maybe if he was ref I'd be a bit bothered, but as it is I'm not expecting him to flag every decision their way, give them penalties, give them everything in their favour. They guy is a professional who's been an assistant in some huge games, he's not going to do anything mad right now to screw any reputation he has.

(Anticipating being proved wrong now when the game happens....)

It doesn't. I still don't think I'd care, but with var sorting offsides as 'fact' based, refs have the possibility to influence games much more than a linesman does.

Walton refereed Everton more than any other club. He always denied he was an Everton fan.
Can guarantee you in his younger days, he was a United supporter, and if you cast your mind back to his refereeing of them, you would not have any doubts

Read through the thread. Turns out much ado about nothing in the end. Also how many players who have played for teams, or multiple teams supported them? I mean there’s some ex players from City who are now pundits and according to the forum absolutely fucking detest City.

Having Danny Mills running the line in one of our games would be a genuine cause for concern.
