David James or Shay Given?

At this moment in time it has to be Given. James is what 38 now, and will be starting to slow down with slower reactions. Shay at 32 is now in his prime, had a fantastic season for us since his arrival in January, and given (no pun intended) a full season with a quality defence in front of him could be the keeper to save us vital points to secure a place in te top 6 (I predict next season could be very close from 4-7 with Arsenal,Everton,Villa,Spurs and us all involved in a mini-league for those spots) and having a keeper like Shay that can win you games is vital. don't get me wrong, James was excellent for us in his time at City, but last season for me showed his career is now on the decline, ala David Seaman. Last season Shay Given was one of te top 4 keepers in the league for me.

Both of them are quality James was good for us and I cant remember him having a calamity moment for us. Shay has been great for us as well. It's hard to judge because of number of games played for the club as a manchester city keeper. James obviously has played far more so you cant really do a fair comparison. shay has been superb same as James was.

I always respected James as a man and the way he handled leaving confirmed this. There are two ways to leave a club the Distin way or the James way. If I remember rightly didn't he ask due to his kid living down south that if a southern team came in could he go so he could be closer?

was it not something to do with him wanting a two year deal and we only offered him a 1 year contract?

There is not even a whiff of it being a close call, James by a very long way is the better keeper.

Shay Given has the same faults he has always had, a good shot stopper that fails to hang on to the ball and is poor coming out for high crosses , not a hatchet job but the truth you will find in any assesment of him over the years

Hart is better than Given ever was and would have been the England keeper now but for Hughes bringing in Shay, when all we needed was cover for him, not a replacement.

I loved James and thought he was brilliant for us. He never really made any of these so called big mistakes when he was here. However Shay is utter class and will probably be the best City keeper since TC and maybe earlier.

David James is a poor excuse for a keeper. He deserves the nickname "Calamity". Given is twice the keeper James would ever hope to be.

Be fair in a City shirt James didn't have a major wobble and was consistant he is one of the reasons we didn't go down when Pearce was in charge. funny how he saved the best one for us though season before last

I remember a shocking mistake to give a corner away at Wigan and he carried on laughling until they scored the resulting corner.

I really don't get this Given thing,I think he is a good GK but he has done nothing more
for us than Hart. The defence has been steadier in the second half of the season also.
Joe Hart must feel pissed off having had to play in front of Dunne & Richards having alternative mares and when Hughes sorted it out he gets dropped.
