Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira has guaranteed that in-demand defender David Luiz will remain at the Estadio da Luz.

The Brazilian centre-back who can also play at left-back has been the subject of affection from several high-fliers in Europe after an impressive season at Benfica.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been credited with an interest in Luiz, who has a €50 million release clause attached to his contract.

The Citizens are believed to have tabled an offer of €35 million for the defender, which was rejected by Benfica, and the club's president has now indicated that all approaches of the same kind will get an identical rejection.

"What concerns me, as president of Benfica, is the conversation I had with David Luiz and what he told me," he is quoted by A BOLA as saying.

"I can guarantee all fans that he will be a player of Benfica next season."

i can only see this comment as david luiz has said he wants to go??

The problem until now is that we still haven't had any quotes from luiz himself but if he really doesn't see himself coming here then we should be pursuing other targets like krasic, kolarov and dzeko.

I can see the attraction for him to go to real madrid but over there the pressure would be even more immense as their supporters demand instant success and if he doesn't hit the ground running,he would be jeered very quickly, you can ask drenthe for that.

Coming to city he would have some pressure but they wouldn't be any politics like he is likely to get in madrid because here as long as he does his job right he would be in the starting eleven.

I think he means concerns in the other meaning, as in, "All I consider now is what David said to me [something about staying at Benfica probably]" rather than "All that worries me now...".
