David Silva - 2018/19 Performances

To put into perspective how much he's had to play this season because of KDB's absence - If David plays another 77 minutes in the 2 remaining games, this will be the most he's played in a season since 2011/12 - the season he turned 25.

So it's very hard to tell if his poor form of late has been age or fatigue, or a mixture of both.

IMO performances like the derby show he can still be one of the best players on the pitch in huge games for us, and that makes me think fatigue is a bigger factor. It was only September/October when people were saying he was in some of the best form of his career.

So lets see what he's like in Preseason. Even Pep & Merlin probably don't know where he's at right now and how much a summer of rest will refresh him.
Well said. No knee-jerk reactions just common sense.

His time here is up IMO.

A club legend and maybe even our greatest player, but he is now existing mainly on former glory and with football being such a fickle business.....that can only tarnish an incredible legacy.

He deserves to go out at the very top, hopefully this Sunday can be that.
Agreed.

He goes off the boil after Christmas every season.

One big payday in Japan beckons.

LEGEND.

No place for him in the Cup final? Bit fickle. ;-)

He’s been sporadically good-average recently but has still put in two excellent performances of late. Especially at Old Trafford.

He regularly has around 90 touches a game and when you look at Foden who has around 40, it tells me we still need David.

Merlin has suffered this season due to KDB’s injury, especially the second half of the season,as he has had to play constantly. He obviously would have benefited, due to his age, had he been able to be rotated more, but it’s not been possible.

Have we not learned with Kompany (and Silva once before in fact) that writing off players after a bit of a weaker run is silly? Remember in midseason when the Walker thread was filled with people being as insulting as physically possible for a few (in their opinion) under par games and now he's been excellent despite apparently not being good enough?

Stop writing City players off. Even though Silva isn't at his glorious best I can assure you he's still contributing to our performances greatly. Unfortunately, it's primarily with simple plays, movement and off-the-ball positioning which just isn't as exciting. If he were as off the boil as is being said he wouldn't have played the games he had.

I understand your point but I think there are a few key differences.

Walker was making brain dead mistakes for months. It was understandable that city fans were pissed about it and are happy he is playing much cleaner.

I think myself (and maybe others) are more in line with saying we want Kompany and Silva to go out on top, they are clearly still very good players but the decline is definitely real and going to progress next season and forward, while we have alot of others players that are on the up.

Doesn't it make sense to let them go out on top and not let them dip so tragically as Yaya did, I think that makes sense.

Links to Bruno Fernandes are also giving me good indications that Silva might leave, I don't want it to happen, but I understand and think he will leave with fans only having good memories about the best of him (of which are the only memories).
