Wednesday one imagines he will get a rest with a few big games in the near horizon. He needs to start doing the same for Fernandinho, somehow.
I would imagine the back room staff have mapped out their strategy already, with only injuries and a significant dip in form changing anything. We definitely have targeted games, with the UCL and Liverpool within 4 days being the most pressing of those. Win those two games and our season is “back in track,” if one bad result in the CL, an away draw in the PL, 2nd place and best GD is considered a “bad start!”
I’m loving all the attention on Liverpool and Chelsea, because everyone (deep down) thinks City will fail to repeat and Liverpool are the best team in the League. Heck, even Klopp is already trying to take the pressure off them!
There is a long way to go and the qualities of David Silva, Fernandinho, KDB, Aguero, etc... will be tested over such a long and competitive season. However, they have the pedigree and muscle memory to know how this can play out if they play smart. Pep does, too!
Also, like others, I hope for (expect!) further support for rotation in January and/or Summer to further extend their playing careers at the top level.
