A true legend but supporters can only judge what they see and sadly the decline in his form and influence has been alarming.

Pep trusts him quite a lot more than Twitter & Bluemoon. Thank fuck Pep picks the team.
David actually had a good game tonight.
We were a penalty miss & Delph mistake away from a tactical masterclass. We were turning the screw and bang! mistake & they score.
This is football.

He certainly wasn't as bad as some are making out, he put himself about well but his passing game was off.

It pains me to see Silva at the moment. he has been a world-class player for several years and like many on here he has been my favourite player and the best I've seen in the city shirt.

But on the evidence of the last 6 months and especially the last few weeks he is slowly looking more languid and apathetic each game. Maybe age catching up and fatigue, maybe carrying a niggling injury. But to me the desire and hunger seems to have gone and i feel saddened that he is no longer the mesmerising magician he once was.

I just don't want him to end up a shadow of his former self like Yaya became. The answer right now is to rest him and trust Foden more IMO.

This, its killing me to watch him like this. Over a decade of people kicking his ankles look like they are catching up and he no longer looks to have that authority. If we are going to start him we have to play KDB alongside, not Gundogan.

It's sad to watch David decline like this but in a small way I'm glad it's happening. Years ago, I was worried he'd still be indispensable by the time he left, and that we'd be completely directionless without him, but now he doesn't even get in our strongest team ahead of Kevin and Bernardo. One of the most crucial things about our legends is how we move on from them, and Silva (along with Aguero) was always going to be the hardest to cope without because he's the metronome that keeps everyone in time. But we've replaced Kompany with Stones and Laporte, we've replaced Yaya with De Bruyne (Pep's greatest micro-achievement, in my view), we'll replace Silva with one of Bernardo or Foden, and Aguero's replacement will come next. Injuries did for Kompany, age did for Zabaleta and Yaya, and now the same is happening to Silva - it's the passage of time. Part of me is hoping that he's just struggling to shake off that hamstring injury he picked up in December, and that a summer off will give him some rest he badly needs, but maybe this is just... it.

He is probably the best player to ever put on a City shirt but that shouldn't guarantee him a start every game.

I think occasionally he would be better utilised coming on to control games when we have a lead.

We have plenty of options in KDB, Bernardo, Gundogan and Foden.

He still has an important role in our squad for the next few seasons but a reduced one.

Sorry to pull you up on just one word in your post but that is completely untrue and extremely unfair.

I thought he was ok last night. It wasn't a great team performance so I wouldn't be singling him out

It’s creeping into the forum more and more that somehow Silva isn’t putting in the effort. I don’t see it like that at all. He’s not been his creative genius self recently but I suppose because his standards have been so high for so long any perceived drop off is being hailed as him being finished.
It won’t be the first time that one of our players is written off only to make people look daft at a later date.
I’ve no problem with him being left out, not him or any player that Pep deems not required for any given game.
The fact is though he’s been our captain for a while and in that time we’ve put on a run that has seen us in a position to win a quadruple. Whilst he’s not hit his own very high ceiling for a while I think Pep trusts him more than just about any other player in the squad.

His authority is sadly waning mate. The subliminal telepathy he had with Aguero seems to me like they are not tuned in on the same frequency anymore. His split second foresight of a perfectly executed threaded pass seems to have gone. His bamboozling trickery that made top defenders look like big static Easer Island statues isn't happening much nowadays either. He seems to be going through the motions, it feels as though he is accepting that he is over the hill and past his best.

I dont think it helps is cause much that his namesake and heir to his crown making him look like old and tired in comparison.

I'm delighted that Bernardo has come on leaps and bounds and is bossing games, but it really does show how much the difference in class is right now, and as delighted as I am for Bernardo like I say I feel saddened.

I think it's pretty difficult to put into words on how I feel about David Silva really, but we can never forget how much of a fantastic player David Silva has been for us, a joy to watch and heartwarming on many a miserable cold day.
