He played better because he was allowed more space. Him and Gundogan should not start together
It easier for him to receive, turn, and see the pitch when he isn’t constantly having to take two or three steps backward to receive a ball played just behind him (and going toward our own goal), that is for sure.

He wasn’t at his best against Newcastle, but I think the cries of “he is done” were very much premature; some of it was just him being uncharacteristically loose with passes, but some of it was down to being forced in to more difficult positions than were necessary. It is difficult to constantly overcome that sort of 10-15% drop in overall quality on your own, even for the legend that is El Mago (and yet, he’s still done it on plenty of occasions). That wasn’t only down to Ilkay, by any means, but I do agree that having them in the same midfield suits neither of them nor the team.

Last night he didn’t have to make up the difference, and he was played more incisive, forward-thinking passes whilst he took up those trademark positions in space just outside of Burnley’s box. Some of that was down to Burnley being woeful, but a lot of it was due to Rodri being more progressive in his play and passing, which made their midfield look even worse than it was, and gave David the opportunity to do what he was born to do: wreak havoc on defences.

Love, love Dave and all he has done for this club. He will go down as a true legend but time for sentimentality is gone. You can tell when a player is not what he used to be in that how many times recently has he picked the wrong pass? He never used to do that and it's all down to speed of thought. Ferna is a freak of nature, a real Benjamin Button but David should be used sparingly now. Like Yaya before him and others after. It is a sad day blues but this will never taint my opinion of a player it has been a joy to watch.

He shouldn't be starting games.

He's leaving at the end of the season as he's too old and his legs have gone.

Why Pep starts him I'll never know.

He's done..

Until the next time he plays well, and then he's not done.

And so on...

Pep and like four posters in this thread are the only people alive who think Silva can play multiple games a week at this point of his career. Totally baffling why we’re doing this.

At least Pep can only start him 22 more times in the league. That is the only crumb of comfort I can take from today.

You, Sir, are a massive arse, have some fucking respect for a club legend, nobody denies it is probably best it is his last season but there are ways and means to express this, yours was not a nice way to do so and really just makes you like a spoiled ****, take your 46 posts and stick them up where the sun don't shine.

Not sure why some of our fans show such disrespect to our players , other than a knee jerk reaction to a Derby defeat maybe , but its obvious at 33 his career is on a decline but he still has the ability to turn games and make that killer pass , he was poor today and i was surprised when he was selected . Gundogan for all the shit he takes on here is in better form. but Foden needs to be given his chance now , the title is done and there is no reason to keep on picking Merlin , but he is still a big part of our squad and can do damage from the bench when needed.
