David Silva leaves City after 10 years

he was a great player for us, but he's nearly gone and we cant dwell. not into retiring shirts unless its due to a sad early death.
the no 21 should remain and mean something if the player gets given it,i would rather see phil earning the shirt than being retired

Best City player I've ever seen and I can't get my head round that his time is up. Some of his skills were jaw dropping and spellbinding. On the pitch took the piss of some good players in tight situations. It's not just us who will miss David Silva, the premier league too. And anyone who enjoys watching football. I don't know anyone who doesn't like him or admire his skills. A model professional who's lit up the league 10 years. It's been a pleasure: )

Think it's a superb pic,but maybe a little premature(C.L Cup)maybe..

I’ve just been reading some of the thousands of comments on his Twitter farewell statement.

With a sizeable lump in my throat, it was heartwarming to read all the comments from non-City fans. There was a genuine admiration for Merlin across the entire league (even, dare I say it, many rags fans).

I started following City in 1969 having return to the UK after being brought up in a football drought country. My new best friend was a City supporter so it was good enough for me. It was the likes of Bell, Lee, Summerbee et all that I enjoyed, and catching glimpses of the great Bell on the Big Match and Match of the Day was a pleasure. No having a resident father to talk me to Manchester (as well as living down south) TV was my only opportunity. What I saw of Bell he was a fantastic player and huge joy to watch.

Fast forward 40 years and along comes Silva. Like most of us he was low on the radar, I had never really heard of him and all the talk was about Yaya (remember the radio jock you got torn a piece about who he was by a city fan yet he was part of the Barcelona team that had destroyed the rags in the CL!?). Well I think the fact that we did not really know much about Silva made it all the better when we soon realised this was someone special. He has been the best player in the EPL for all those years with his all of his talents. Those finely treaded passes from outside the box to the 6 yard line, or the perfect pass to Džeko on the 6-1 are merely headlines in the greater contribution he has made to the team.

As someone has said he was the one before the assist. He was the one collecting the ball from outside his own area and instigating an attack. He was the one running rings round midfield. He was the one leaving three opponents on their arses. He was the one and only.

I doubt there will be anyone to equal him in a long time. May the memory of him echo around the Etihad for ever. I think he was that little bit better than Bell.

I don’t get the opportunity to get to Manchester much. I did though have tickets for the last game solely to clap goodbye to the great man. Wish it could have happened.

All the best David. Thank you

If David Silva played for Utd or Liverpool he wouldn't have stayed 10 years. We have been so lucky that amongst all the trophies etc we witnessed this wonderful man with the ball that sticks to his feet prior to precisely finding a colleague happily ply his trade. Next to go Sergio and before we know it Sir Phillip Foden, MBE , enjoy while we can.

maybe true about him not staying at utd ? but silva should have picked multi awards over the years in the premier league
it even hurts more now when sky are talking about him as this great player in the premier league ?? to fucking late skysports

and its scary to think how cantona is seen to silva who won more silverware than him ??

What they said about David Silva:-

No pace
No right foot
Not physical enough
Will never make it in the PL

FUCKING LOL
When we first signed Silva I remember he went down far too easily and would look to the ref for a foul and contest every decision against him. I thought he was just another theatrical soft arse European trying to con the ref at every opportunity like so many have done and still do.

But I think Dave soon realised the premier league was not La Liga where play acting is common place. He soon became a very honest player who rode many cynical fouls and stayed on his feet and not make a meal of it. And for his slight stature has developed into a strong physical player who belies his stature.

How the fuck he's never won any individual awards when he's lit up the league for 10 seasons is beyond me!: /

And what a way for him to go. It's just a shame he couldn't have said his goodbyes in front of a packed Etihad.

Good luck to him. He seems like a likeable bloke as well.

It just utterly proves the agenda. I would have loved to see him, Colin Bell and Yaya in a midfield 3

I keep seeing rumours linking Silva with Beckham's vanity project in Miami. If he is looking to move to America I would hope it would be to join New York City!

Ironically I think it suited Merlin to play for a team that rarely receives credit, than for one of the self-entitled teams that wear red. The press coverage would have been totally different and he is an intensely private man. A match made in heaven.
