Because there's no way that Benitez will play with both of them - especially not in the Italian league where his style of efficient football will be more respected than it ever was in England.

Having said all that - we have to accept that if we want to dine at the top table in terms of the players we sign, it will have to be like this until we actually qualify for the CL...

The Italian rumour mill is also suggesting Rafa wants Kuyt and Masch from Liverpool.

Now Moratti is a wealthy man, but I find it highly unlikely he would be prepared to spend the likely close to EUR40m for those two as well as EUR30-35m for Silva. Unless Inter sell someone for silly money, but the only real candidate is Maicon, who might fetch EUR18m-22m. But I would suspect it is more likely in any case that he will stay.

And that's without even considering the wage bill - none of those three players would be cheap.

So the bottom line is that Rafa will have to make some choices, IMO.

Totally agree - plus he's in the unlikely position of stepping into a team who've just done the treble...so it's not like the squad needs major surgery. I don't see Rafa signing Silva, but I could be wrong...

If a selection is a loser and people keep backing it, then the price is cut. I have no idea if we're signing Silva but the price has to move with the money.

In all seriousness it is totally inconceivable that Rafa will play with only 1 midfielder who has serious defensive instincts. Which in turn means getting dropping one of Silva, Sneijder and Balotelli from that line up.

I guess he might buy Silva to play on the wing if he doesn't fancy Mou's trident attack.
