Is that bird shit on their shirts?

For all sorts of reasons, Silva’s overall influence has been on the wane for almost two seasons. Yes, there’s been the odd fleeting moment of brilliance, but nothing compared to his performance at Hull in 2014, or going further back, his matadorial arrogance at the swamp for the 6-1.

Perhaps he’ll come back fresher next season, but I suspect that he’ll struggle with the speed and intensity that Pep will demand from his players.

Silva, Zabs, VK and Yaya played to death over the course of the last two seasons and as a consequence they are on a downward spiral, some faster than others.

Unless some kind of coaching roles are found for Zabs and VK then they will be gone inside a couple of seasons and SIlva has a wish to return home to play for his local team and Yaya will play for the largest payer.

Legends and a sad time but sadder still that we have not got some young lads ready and waiting to step into their shoes, Pep will have to buy and then filter in some youth over his 3 year cycle or we will never bring any youth into the team as a permanent fixture.

I think it's not just personal satisfaction though. Maybe it has something to do with the culture, but personally I believe if you have that ability, why not try your best to repay and bring more happiness to your country? Clubs pay the wages, but does wages alone mean that players have to sacrifice everything for the clubs, when the clubs sometimes give me a feeling that they treat players as nothing more than robots? And do all the players ask for that much money in the first place? This, the whole putting club before country regardless of the situation, is one of the many things in football which goes wrong.

But then this is just my personal opinion. You can disagree of course, though one thing that irks me a lot is the self-righteous approach you take on players. Don't mean to offend, but sometimes it gives me a vibe that players are to you nothing more than assets for the clubs. While players should treat the club with respect, which I think most of them do, is it too much to ask for treating them as fellow human being with a bit more respect, consideration and appreciation?

Btw, check the comments from VDB and the videos from spain nt. You'll see why it's not that unacceptable for him to go to the Euros.:)

The key to all this is a lack of player down time if they go to a major tournament and their side goes well. I think players need at least 4 weeks total rest in the off season some may require more. In the years ahead player burnout is going to be of growing concern. The only way out imo ultimately will be less games. Looking at the domestic situation it seems highly unlikely the PL will reduce in size or less cup games will be scheduled. Also in Europe less CL/EL games won't happen. Likewise can't see national organisation agreeing to less competitions. The bottom line will be that players may need to go into international retirement sooner than they would like to.

So true, Silva, KDN, Denyer will be lucky to get 3 weeks break, simply not enough.
We are witnessing player burn out and it's only going to get worse.
In the coming years I can see the top players been burn out by the time they hit 30, especially if they got into top team at a young age.
