For many City fans of my sort of age (32) now David White was one of the few bright sides in the hardship of supporting City (especially in that rag infested shitehole of Little Hulton). It was a real shame the England pressure got to him.

Lake, White, Rosler, Quinn were the city legends of my youth, they were grim days we were pretty shite for most of it and the rags were just starting to win stuff

You deserve a medal for growing up a Blue in LH my friend. It was bad enough for me in poncey little Worsley!

We're about the same age and although he was never my hero, he sure as hell gave us some pleasure during some tough times. He was frustrating as hell at times but when he hit that real purple patch in the 91/92 season he was unstoppable. I can confirm him and his family are all top class as well. His mam had a restaurant in Monton (The Bistro) and I remember spending NYE there as a 14 or 15 year old with my family. His mam knew me and my Dad were Blues and always made a big fuss of us and got me a signed photo of Whitey. Stuff like that means a lot when you're a kid.

does anyone here recall the trio

white quinn and sheron - i think it was mike sheron.

he was awesome

then vanished. i think we sold him off.

White was an incredible player at times. Should have been given another chance with England. We all knew him as a kick and run merchant at the time as he could out-pace anyone, but his shooting and strength would have made him a great player even in today's game.

Sheron went to Norwich iirc, then slipped down the divisions.

I still wonder what would have been in White would have stayed. Beagrie on the other wing, then Paul Walsh, Uwe and Quinny all to choose from up front.

Mike Sheron ended up at QPR I remember going to watch Sunderland v QPR the game finished 2-2 quinn got 2 and sheron got 2
Made it worth while going..

Favourite player growing up, always seemed to score against the bigger teams. He was on a show called something like "Where are they now?" on Sky Sports one night, a programme that documents the careers both current and past of Premiership players. Like others have said, he really has piled on the weight, reminded me of Robert de Niro in Raging Bull. He has a beard now as well. What I never knew about the guy was that the last game he ever played was the 1997 Division One Play off final for Sheffield United against Crystal Palace, the game that was decided by that curling shot by David Hopkin of Palace in the last minute of extra time. Showed Whitey on the turf in the aftermath, heartbroken - he never played another game after that, which, considering he was just 29 at the time, was really sad. The first memory I have of him is the below match. His second goal is absolutely brilliant. Just press stop after Hendry's goal!

Christ. I'd forgotten just how classy Hendry's goal was. And yes, I did press stop after it *shudders*

good old bonehead, one of my fave players over the years. always knew when he put a good cross in cos he ended up on his arse (prime example in the 5-1) have a memory of him scoring from about half way against luton. Also scored the winner against arsenal about 1990 i think , first time we had beaten them for years

"Who needs Cantona when we've got David White?"
He might not have been the most gifted player in the world but he was great for us. I remember me and my mate Pembo backing him as first to score for a full season and we won enough to pay for our season tickets for the following season. Not bad for a right winger!
One thing that always made me laugh was that every time he took a shot, he would fall flat on his arse.
I remember the video of the Liverpool game at Maine Road (can't remember the year though) when he scored at the North Stand end and then peeled away to celebrate. In the background was the Kippax, full to the brim with us lot screaming like we'd won the league. I get a bit emotional when I see that.
As for Ricky Holden, he was as slow as you can get for a winger (or any type of footballer) but he always got his cross in and could put the ball where you wanted it.
