De Bruyne injury - Back in Training (p89)

our blessing is he repairs quickly, heals well, the last injury he had he was up and running 2 or 3 weeks earlier than expected. This isn't the difference between us winning the league, players will cover and fortunately in that area we have a lot of cover.

another injury would be a blow, time to say to the players be focussed and learn from this injury, watch what you are doing.
Learn what. We have the best coaching staff in the world, we will train the same way we always have, injuries will happen.

We have coped well against Chelsea and Arsenal without him but it is a huge loss. He has so much energy and that ability to carve open the opposition from anywhere on the pitch. It just means we have to adjust our play a little but we will still create chances. We do not have anyone who does what he can with the same energy to get up and down the pitch though. Gundogan, Foden, Bernardo and Silva can play that role but not with the same drive. Foden is probably the closest replacement but De Bruyne has big boots to fill.

Hopefully it is not as serious as thought and he can come back quickly. Pep always exaggerates injury lengths where previous City managers have downplayed them. Our players always seem to come back quicker than the timescales Pep gives initially.

Gutted Kevin is out but on the plus side our next 4/5 fixtures are winnable without him so let’s see first luckily we have a strong squad so not worrying to much would rather have this injury now then the back end of the season.

I wouldn't go that far just yet, he couldn't get a game for France and has proved nothing with us as of yet. Saying that I do think he has the tools to become a great player so hopefully we see it this year.
He played against Denmark but then picked up another muscular injury. He had just established himself as the French left back but then got injured with City and when he came back at the end of the season he had limited games in a City shirt so he had lost his place in the first team.

Thats all well and good but ive not seen anything as of yet to suggest hes up there with the likes of Alba, Marcelo, Walker etc. However I do think he has all the attributes to get to that level.

We'll be ok. Nice run of relatively easier fixtures coming up, then an international break, plus we have Silva, Mahrez, Sterling, Bernardo and Sané, not to mention we could play with Kun and Jesus together against the likes of Wolves and Huddersfield.

Yeh best time to have a bad thing happen. Hard to quantify the impact of his loss but if he is out for an extended period there will be games were he will be missed and this will most likely translate into points lost. importantly we may have to alter our pattern of play somewhat as I don't see an obvious like for like replacement for Kev. Gundog is nowhere near direct and incisive enough. Also Merlin is probably going to play more than is to be desired at this stage of his career I though he looked jaded in Russia and international retirement was inevitable really. I think we will manage just about as long as the injury is not worse than is being reported.

Sad to lose him, but he will be back stronger and fitter with the rest he will get and will be itching to get back when ready and punish the opposition - which will only benefit us in going to try and retain the title
