De Bruyne?

For the fee this has sky rocketed to, this is a big gamble imo

Earlier in the summer I pegged this down as a 35-40m signing. Now we're reaching 60m if reports are to be believed. Ludicrous

This is not a barbed question at all, but in what way does the price tag make the acquisition a gamble, especially when most people are agreed that FFP will not be a problem moving forward? If anything, and this isn't meant to sound arrogant, the fee is the last thing to be concerned about. If we eventually manage to do the deal, the only concern we should have is whether he fulfils the club's expectations with regards to his potential and helping the team to success on the pitch.

If he bombs, the saving of £20 million would seem a bit of a hollow victory when waited against what was believed he would bring to the team. For me the 'gamble' is always the same - will the player improve the team's chances of success to the level the club expects? Other than a tenuous link to a player feeling 'weighted down' by the size of a fee, the price tag has no actual bearing on whether these expectations are actually realised.
