Didn't watch the game as i was at a concert, but how did he do?

Is heback to his usual self or is he still lacking fitness?

"still" lacking fitness? In your opinion of couse but I wouldnt agree he was lacking fitness at all. Looked fine as he did in the last game he had played and played well again.
iput still because he is coming back from injury and i missed this gameand the wolves game, so have that smart arse

Re: De Jong last night..

he is my fav player at city (yes, even silva)but as squirtyflower said,he is not up to his usual high standard, probably needs another 90 mins to get there.LOVE THE GUY !

he just doesnt fit in the team anymore imo

Re: De Jong last night..

Normally when i think about de Jong, he comes to mind first and for me is straight on that team sheet.

But for some reason i haven't thought like that for a while now.

He's the perfect squad player to have, couldn't be better.

anyway forget about NDJ, how was the gig? :)

There will be numerous games where he will be first name on the team sheet many of them against our biggest rivals so I wouldn't say he doesnt fit into the team anymore.

As for last night I think he was excatly what we needed in there, yes Villareal were very very poor but pretty much anything they did offer was tidied up by big Nige. The 3 in the middle of the park is what were going to get used to seeing in the Champions League with Yaya allowed more licence to bomb on and any 2 of De Jong, Barry or Milner playing more as sitting midfielders good decision by Bobby Manc in my eyes.

Re: De Jong last night..

The only frustrating thing about his performance last night was the amount of times he could have easily turned and played a forward pass, but instead chose to play first time balls back to the centre backs, or sideways to the full backs. He is actually a very good passer, i've seen him play many good forward balls. I just think the defence need to be shouting "TURN!" to him when he has time and space.

Am so clever!

He's not playing how he used to but just give him more time

Some good tackles. Usual sideways and backwards passing. Always seems to stop the flow and fluidity of our game imo. Not needed last night really against a very weak VR.
i agree with all this

Bobby Manc seems to disagree with you. Perhaps he should be sacked.

But that approach was a team approach. The whole team were playing keep ball from the start and just waiting and waiting till some space appeared. We are long past the days when the name of the game is get the ball forward as quickly as possible.
