De Jong starts for Holland

You could have had Mark van Bommel for nothing this summer. His contract ran out and just signed a new 1 year deal with Bayern a week ago.

Anatoly Tymoschuk is another player who is miles better than De Jong. Not only defending but also footballing wise. 20 million Euro's was a real joke.

This transfer was just as bad as the Samaras one !

stop being silly now...

Your name sounds Dutch...you should know

De Jong has been a fringe player everywhere. In Amsterdam , Hamburg and also for the Dutch National Team.

Everyone was surprised that he played at Euro 2008 and had an excellent tournament. That's the only reason why he is at City

Yes its one reasons but as you said he had an excellent tournament, so what is your point ? also, you say he is a fring player for the national team.. so how many games has he played ? bear in mind he is only 24..

Number of Caps dont mean a thing. He has never been considered a regular starter. Ryan Babel isa few years younger than De Jong and has the same number of caps.

Dutch players start their National team career at 18. If you get 4 sub appearances and a couple of starts a season you get to 30 quite easily. Especially in defensive positions where Holland have lacked real depth and strength. With Mark van Bommel not wanting to play under Van Basten for 4/5 years has helped a bit offcourse as well.

De Jong couldnt even be a starter then and Demy de Zeeuw got his place.

It's the same with the English squad. Why does Heskey have 50+ caps ?? He's not a regular and he is a fringe player that doesnt add anything considerably.

Just because there is no depth

At least 50 times...probably closer to 75 times
Spacecake must be still top notch,if he had a good euro's and played for hamburg regularly, how on gods creation can he be a bad player?

The transfer fee was payed so we did'nt get involved in an auction at the end of the season.Where other big hitters would have been involved and we could of ended up paying more, but you would know that already being a fountain of football knowledge.

ok each to their own but I trust van basten's knowledge of football against yours..
Ok fair enough

But Van Basten didnt play him for 4 years (mediocre sub role) and only used him as a regular starter for Euro 2008.

De Jong only played because Demy de Zeeuw and Louis van Gaal's AZ team were having some real trouble finding form and had an awful season in the end.
