Yes he is entitled to ASK. The Club is entitled to counter. I believe that the Club's stance is valid. MORE than his.
Bridge, Bellamy, Santa Cruz, Tevez, Adebayor, Milner, Barry, all who have earned considerably more in recently more. Yet De Jong has contributed more than all of them put together and not once brought us into disrepute (Milner and Barry excluded).
I liked Nigel a lot, especially in a 3 man midfield last season but, sorry, that's bollocks.
Loyalty is a two-way street and he loves this club to bits. His existing role in the team is a different debate.
Why? Surely his role in the team is a major consideration when offering a new contract? As it is for any of our players. Have you considered the possibility that Mancini KNEW that his role would diminish this season as he moved the focus of our play into a more attacking mode (the Club could well be aware of this through Roberto and/or signings such as Aguero / Nasri / Silva /Balotelli/ Dzeko etc).
