De Jong: "There is no concern about my contract"

De Jong is not worth more than that for heaven sake.

You need to up your game on the expletives front. "For heavens' sake" should be restricted to WWII drama's and Downton Abbey.

Lol - made me chuckle, thanks.... 'good show old chap!'

Doesnt bother me either way what happens to him.

He is ok but nothing more. Never scores, never creates and in recent games where he has played hasnt done what he is supposed to do and help to stop the opposition from scoring.

I've actually reached the point where I'd be disappointed if we don't sell de Jong in the summer. Nothing personal cos he's a top man and I'm not going to be bitter about any supposed input from joorabchin or Nige turning down our contract offer, I base my opinion purely on what I see on the ptich and I don't think Nige is up to it these days. He was pivotal for us and the way we played last year but it's totally changed this year and he simply isn't up to it in a two man midfield. People say 'he's the best at what he does' but we could sign the best joiner in the world who'd be the best at what he does, but like Nige he'd be pretty useless in a 2 man central midfield. Mancini's made our team so fluent these days and Nige is just so rigid and limited it's a waste of a player. People wet their kecks about how hard he is but I think he's weak as piss. Frimpong made him his woman at the emirates the other month. He's too weak to win the ball without sliding in, can't win a header, offers nothing going forward and because he can't keep up with play he doesn't even give us any decent defensive cover anymroe. Just gets caught 20 yards behind play then easily dummied as he dives in. People wanted Mancini to take the handbreak off and now he has they're going to have to deal with the consequences and one of those is that Nige can't fit in this team. To make an omelette you've got to break a few eggs and de Jong is one of those eggs I'm afraid. No room for sentiment in football, onwards and upwards

Apologies if this has already been mentioned - didn't have time to read through all the replies - but this story was in the Guardian this morning (well, on the website). (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/18/manchester-city-nigel-de-jong" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012 ... el-de-jong</a>) Daniel Taylor seems pretty well connected with source(s) at the club these days, and the piece reads like someone at City was feeding information to him as a way of getting the message out to De Jong. Especially the last paragraph:

City regard last summer's offer as generous but De Jong was one of their more important players at that point and, as such, wanted to be made one of the highest earners at the club. The disparity between what he wanted and what was on the table was significant and, perhaps crucially, City will almost certainly offer reduced terms if talks are to reopen.

Did you not wonder why the topic of De Jong's contract was suddenly of interest? Next time I suggest you read at least the last page of a thread before commenting.

If he's turning down £100k a week he's going to lose a lot of favour with City fans who don't know where the next ticket money's coming from!

Are people really that bothered what most players earnings are? If he believes he's worth more in comparison to others in the squad - then he's entitled to say so.

Premier league players are on a different planet to the rest of us - with a completely different lifestyle to contend with. Everyone knows that a players career is relatively short - and I, personally, don't begrudge them.

It's players like Danny Mills - and now Wayne Bridge who really piss me off. No interest in playing - yet earning a shed full for the privilege.
