He's no good in the air, his tackles would give away a lot of penalties and he wouldn't be all that great bringing the ball out from the back the usual advantage of converting a midfielder to a defender.

Vinnie didn't start as a midfielder though. He was a defender who was converter to the midfield when he came here and was very young at the time. NDJ has been a DM his whole career and is like 29 years old now.
On a personal level I'd hate to see NDJ in red. But he's not really what they need. Would be fine with them signing another aging veteran who's on good wages and doesn't provide any creativity, which is what they are lacking. Yes NDJ has been effective in Italy but it's easier to do so. He's a very physical player in a league of less athletic players who play at a very slow tempo. He was very ineffective going forward for us, which is why he's gone.

What is so incredible? Garcia has covered at centre back on occasions, is he so much better than De Jong, especially tackling?
De Jong was playing the same role 20 yards forward, he was not an attacking Midfielder.
I am not saying he would be first on the list and take on the role permanently as we need someone at the same class as Kompany to compete at the highest level but he would be a good backup.
