His job is to break up the oppositions play which is usually what he does very effectively. I don't expect anything fancy from him but I certainly think we look better with him than without him.

Who exactly does De Jong have available in front of him?
Do we just lump it forward because some of you are to idiotic to understand that football is about possession?
Do you think De Jong is in the team to lump it forward?
Are the people moaning about De Jong the same nobheads sat in front of me whose tactical knowledge amounts to shouting "forward" every time a player has the ball?
The chances are, if you have ever shouted "forwards" (the most moronic thing to say at a football ground) in anything other than the final minutes, you know fuck all about football.

Barry is by far our most important midfielder (not including Silva). He works harder than the rest, hes better at tackling, passing and keeping possession.
De Jong is good but OP is 100% correct De Jong doesn't know how to pass forward It's back to a defender every time.

Nearly every pass by Barry lately has been misplaced. Twice in about 8 minutes today he lost us possession in fairly dangerous positions, giving Kiev a chance to put us under pressure.
Not comparing the two at all, De Jong is a fantastic defensive midfielder and very neat and tidy on the ball. One of our most important players, too criticise the bloke for passing it sideways I really don't understand. He's been playing that position all season and has been fantastic.

He passes it forward a lot more this season than last. Most of his passes are first touch lay offs from tackles when the ball is in the air, so you can't really knock his ability to find a man in a tight situation. When he does pass forward its normally more incisive and direct than most would pass in the team. Barry can be just as important though.

According to the OS both players were equal in pasing and tackling, the difference is barrys passes were forward, De Jongs went back to the defence.
Barry:
Tackles - 3/3
Passes - 46/53
De Jong:
Tackles: 3/3
Passes - 46/53
Silva also had 7 passes which went to the other team, does that mean his passing is shit too? Kompany gave the ball away 16 times, lets sell him...
