would be a very very good signing would sadly mean the end of DJ but without doubt a quality player and would improve our midfield - we could rotate Yaya / Barry and De Rossi as the mid field two in the 4 2 3 1 formation

Would be the end of Barry, De Jong is happy to be a squad player from his latest comments and is younger than Barry who will slow down even more in a season or two.

Would it have to be the end of Barry? I see him being used in the veira role in future seasons, however he isn't past it yet and I seem to remember some of his best perfomances being this season; Him and YaYa dominated the Scum's midfield three between them, I know their midfield is weaker nowadays but it is Blackburn is it and stopping any sort or supply to their attackers deserves high praise. If we sign DDR that leaves us with 5 players for 2 Positions but taking in to account Milner can opperate of a wing as an energetic work horse or floating midfielder then I don't see too much of a problem.

Barry is as safe as anyone in our sqaud, even with the addition of mighty DDR. De Jong however... will be a luxury reserve and something we might not need.

I reckon our central midfield will have two designs next season, one more defensive looking and one more attacking.

With DDR in our sqaud, the way I see it the ultimate line-up would be either:

-------------- De Rossi --------------
-- YaYa ------------------ Nasri -----

Or a more defensive one:

---- De Rossi --------- Barry -------
---------------- Yaya -----------------

Yaya, Barry, DDR would all get a lot of playing time, so no worries there.
Further more, I personally would love to see Nari become more of a playmaking attacking midfielder as I think he'd be the bomb there and would thus be an option in Yaya's more advanced role.

So City have to pay the price of his loyalty to Roma !

Yeah of course. That's his team and he's entitled and respected for thinking like that. If a City player did the same I'd be thrilled so I'm not going to play hypocrite and moan.

De Rossi is worth his money. Look at him v Spain when he dominated what is Barca's midfield on his own. Him with Yaya is something that simply will destroy teams, couple that with Silva and Nasri and you can see we will tear teams apart.

Roma are one of the clubs interested in Savic for what it's worth.

(insert swap deals never happen graphic here) ;)

I didn't think there would be anybody daft enough. I know it's harsh but I would be glad if I never saw him in a City shirt again. Scared me shitless when he touched the ball.

Lot's of people, "daft" enough. Mancini being one.

When you consider we let German international go who now plays for Bayern and his replacement is somebody that has poor anticipation and reading of the game. We passed up on Cahill, player that bumps us up with English quota and established here for an inexperienced Foreigner. I don't get it.

Mancini fucked up with that one. His only real blemish.

Anybody that days Savic had got enormous potential needs to watch him again. He's a fish out of water here and needs a move away. Look where we are and where we are going and picture Savic against top players in CL. Laughable to think he'd be good enough.

Spot on!

De Jong takes the place of a foreigner spot and is playing hardball with a contract. De Rossi takes his place imo. That's the plan I feel. De Rossi is an upgrade and a mouthpiece to Mancini.

Barry is ronseal, he also stays becuae English quota and for the fact he's tactically adept. He's a very good organiser in game. I'd be comfortable saying he's one of Bobbys favourites.

I'll trust the guy that got us the title. Thanks though.

Not every transfer works out. Sometimes a little patience is called for though. As I've said, Lescott was dire his first season. Now he's deservedly a starter on the Premier League champions.

Fergies won how many titles but they still dropped clangers. Kleberson, Berbatov (only 1 good season), Veron (only good in CL), Djemba Djemba etc.

Why is a point invalid because our manager has a trophy? Savic isn't a top defender and isn't suited to our league imho. Whether he plays for us or Chelsea or Bolton, the point remains.

A loan to a club might do him good but I cannot see him fending off danger v top teams.

Lescott is a good defender when he's lead. Terry and Kompany help him out. He's a good defender but mistake prone. Had a great season and irrelevant to the Savic point as Lescotts start was troubled with injury. Imo of course.

I know mate. It makes you salivate, De Rossi, Yaya, Silva, Nasri is as close to the quality Barca has than anybody else.

Our defence was best in league. Our midfield was best and now probably stronger and our attack is immense and Cavani would complete it.

We just need a few squad signings for cup comps and for AFCON and we are away with it. If Johnson is kept I'd like to see him on the left whipping the ball in with his left foot instead of cutting in, Ramirez/Navas/Di Maria doing same on right side. Perfect for defense minded teams.

Cavani excels in set piece which compliments our already record topping set piece stats. We were best last year and Cavani would make us even better :)

You make a lot of sense my friend. Nice to come across such insightful, rational and sane posts.

I wonder if we'll get to see Nasri as a central attacking mid position, on a regualr basis. With him there and Yaya and Daniele behind him, I dare to say we would have on of the two greatest midfields in the world.

Daniele will make a great impact from the get-go, and will probably have three years of the highest quality in him. And even when his capacity drops slightly, he'll still be a very good player.
Martinez would be a better long-time alternative though if the re-sale value was of paramount importance..
